      tankee,

So you mean RMPS is much better compare with RVPS since RMPS have the following awards?

      School Distinction Award (2008-2012)
Best Practice Award (Teaching and Learning) (2008-2012)

Does the awards being given out every year?Who knows RVPS may get such award in this year. :pray
      :

Best Practice Award is level 2 awards .... which will \"rollup\" to School Distinction Award. Strictly based on MOE awards wise, yes, RMPS did better than RVPS and a lot of other schools including TNS.

Award is given out once a year.

Wow in that case may need to reconsider to try RMPS instead of RVPS since RMPS have the SDA & Best Practice Award!

So if the school does not have SDA & Best Practice Award they are not really good? Is there a way I can ask RVPS when they would be getting such award?

BTW, any parents can share how is it like if a child is in such school which has SDA & Best Practice Award?

I know that RMPS had appeared in the News previously for their initiatives. More recent one that I can recall was sometime last year when RMPS principal initiated a student exchange programme, and sent a student to Nan Hua to attend classes there for a week.

However, I was not impressed by it, as the RMPS student was full of priases of what Nan Hua has / doing over RMPS.

And I had a colleague whose child studied in RMPS, during those years, he wasn't please with the school and was trying to transfer the child to another school. No sure the reason though.

.... er ... why are we discussing RVPS and RMPS at Marine Parade sub-forums? :? :rotflmao:

            ... correction.

SEA is the highest award a primary school can attain.

Raffles Girls Primary School is the first (and only for now) primary school awarded with SEA. They got it last year.
Really? So a Primary School finally made it huh. *Looks to RGPS with new light* 🙂

              Hi Cozi,

              U're managing that size?
Surprised that TNS don't have any School of Distinction compare to KH.

              TNS:
              Sustained Achievement Award (Physical Fitness)
              Sustained Achievement Award (Sports)
              CHERISH Award - Silver
              Development Award (Character Development) (2008-2010)
              TAF Award - Gold

              KH:
              School Distinction Award (2008-2012)
Best Practice Award (Teaching and Learning) (2008-2012)
              Best Practice Award (Aesthetics)
              Best Practice Award (Sports)
              Development Award (Character Development) (2007-2009)
              TAF Award - Silver

anyone can advise what does TAF award and Cherish award means?
Yap i just completed the site.

My wife is a teacher, my colleagues and friends asked me frequently which primary school is better. However, all the information that teachers have are all information that is available to the public. So i took some time to compiled all the primary school in SG based on MOE's award and came up with the site for my friends and colleagues. Guess with will be helpful to all Kiasu parents here =D

              http://unofficial-sg-primary-school-guide.blogspot.com/2009/07/moe-awards-information.html can be found here.

                Hi cozi,

thanks alot for the update! for busy parent like me, it’s really gd to have such informative site.

Although awards may not mean much, but i’m really surprise (to some extend disappointed) that TNS don’t even achieve SDA. Now i really wonder if one of my friend had mentioned earlier that TNS only put good teachers in better achievement classes (GEP) and neglect the average students.

Frankly, i’m doubting my choice now and seriously considering another better sch (academic and awards received).

Are there any other TNS parents that have encountered the same issue as my friend? Would greatly appreciate your feedbacks.

                  Hi Checkered

I think the qn u have raised is a very common "problem" in school
I heard from my colleague whose daughter is in Rosyth that the school only focus on students from GEP classes and A** Classes.
Even in Nanhua pri, they will make students with poor results to retain in the same level (meaning cant promote to next level). This is v true from a friend of mine whose son is in Nanhua pri. This is to maintain their high standard level of education. that is y their PSLE achievement is always 100% passes as shown in the website.
Even in non-GEP school like Ai Tong, if the students cant catch up, the school will not hesitant to call up the parenets to ask them to engage a tutor for their children!

My kids are in MBS and what I appreciate about them so far is that if the child is not doing well in a particular area, iso telling the parents to send kids for tuition, etc… The teachers will actually conduct tuition classes for the kids. They will also speak to the parents to provide ideas on how they can help the kids (not asking parents to send the kids for external tuition)…

                      Hi MMM and Sunset,

Yes, i would be very appreciate if the school is to tell me that my child needs more guidance and they be involved in the process. This is the kind of school i’m looking for.

Are there any parents from TNS whose children are receiving guidance/tuition from their teachers rather than asking them to "buck up or else…"? Would appreciate your sharing.

Should we fault the school on this? Would we rather the child gets promoted and subsequently fail? It's a hard decision to hold back students, but it's one that has to be made simply because it is the better choice - to let the student try it at his own time.
