RE: All About Full-Time Maids
I never had any luck in getting any good maids and I am fed up of keep changing maids.
All come either havent finish 2 years contract or immediately finish loan, colours come out.
My longest maid was a myanmar who work with me for only 1.5 years. She have been working in Singapore previously for 5 years but her English is still terrible, I endure becoz my kids are small, as long as don’t create big problems, well behave usually I close one eye. Haven’t reach 2 years contract, she said her mum is v sick (apparently I heard they will always use this as an excuse) need to go back.
Now I took a filipino maid, as usual during interview, everything can do, can work, love kids. After finish loan, start to show attitude, always pull long face. She have 2 kids but whenever she have house problems, she will bring it to our house, just keep pulling long face, will not answer you when u tell her off. Weekly off day is the happiest, early morning leave the house come back so so so happy. the next day, pull long face again.
Last nite told me, her son need to have a very minor operation and want her to be around, ask me how?
Finish clearing loan and take full salary for only 4 mths. I told her how can I afford to take last min leave and let you go back?
My work is already so shorthanded and I can’t possibly last min take 2 weeks leave when another colleague is on maternity.
She told her sis (who married to Singapore) that she can just advance $ from me to pay for her salary, which I didn’t even
give consent at all. The ending question again she ask how? So I have to pay for her son operation + her air ticket?
I really really hire maid until so frustrated… -

RE: DIY bringing back Filipino helper
if its not the same employer, then its an hassle.
I ever encounter before. Did direct hiring myself under different
employer name, bought tickets, apply work permit, buy insurance.
end up on the day of flight, the maid called me to tell me she is
barred from taking the flight (last yr phillippines implement maid embargo to SG). End up all my $$ wasted.. In the end went through agency to apply her out. paid $1k plus agency fees, end up she still cannot come out... waited till 3 mths still cannot come out, in the end took a transfer maid in SG, have to top up agency fees plus her loan cost me almost $3k. not including the loss of
flight ticket..raven:
Thanks JJ.
Just found out that this ex-maid was under my other family name at that time. Is this still possible then? -
RE: Myanmar maids
i paid my current myanmar maid $500 no off day, work in SG 3.5 yrs before.
seriously have to think twice getting myanmar maid, i feel they are overpaid.
work 3.5 yrs in SG still speak bad english, most of the time cannot understand what she says. worst still, work so long in SG cant cook.
when interview her, she say can cook actually is cook porridge only and taste is horrendous. only plus point is, they listen and wont argue or rebuke. -
RE: Horizon Primary
In popular sch, teachers are under more pressure, to deliver more as parents expect more and school principal expect more. My son is in MTS
and I could feel the tension/pressure, they were already start on 1B activity book in May and final exam in beginning of July!
However, I doubt the teachers there are really motivated, but rather under pressure to rush through teaching the curriculum. Let me also
pre-empt u lst. If you want to enrol in such popular sch, you have to really prepare your child well, make sure he/she really have a solid background, don't except teachers to teach coz teacher will expect your children TO KNOW. Many times, my son form teacher was absent. I don't know if she is on course or on MC. My son will just tell me teacher not here today, today silent reading... 2 weeks later... teacher not here again... sick... I called the form teacher thrice on different occassions, but she never returned my call.. 3rd time was a more severe case and she called me back (Son classmate's threw his glasses and lens broke).
Some schools that I know of, their teachers are very committed, they will not hesitant to give parents their HP no so parents can contact teachers at any time. The recent Eng test, 1/4 of the class failed, form teacher said: test upon 40 marks, those above 35 marks, gd job those failed you know what you should do. My son quoted what teacher told the class, and I thought: what could the failures do? Isnt what the teacher should do to help the failures? I think parents not only should pray hard their children can get into gd sch they should also pray hard their children can get a gd and responsible teacher.

That's for sure. In popular schs like horizon/mee toh, definitely the teachers r motivated to teach. I m just thking, with such fierce competition at horizon, I got to consider alternative at the new schs. If ballot out, also must compromise at new schs. No choice now leh! I didn't expect such high demand for horizon?!
