oh..NMOS which is organised by NUSH doesn't have 'Platinum' the highest award is 'Gold'..Top 30 or more rankings of NMOS will be invited for their DSA but still need to pay the usual fees. But the fees will be refunded to these students provided they pass the first DSA test and there after they go for the camp....They still need to go through the same test and camp before being offered a place in NUSH..[/quote]I know NMOS doesn't have Platinum. I was referring to SMOPS. I remember reading about it in the earlier part of this thread 2 years ago. Maybe it was NMOS then. Students who passed the first test and made it through to the second test had to pay a fee to attend the camp. But those with Platinum in SMOPS (or maybe you're right about NMOS top scorers) didn't have to pay the fees. They just indicated if they were attending the camp.
No, the NUSH DSA camp. The one after the Math/Science test.jtoh:

Hi
My neighbourโs son is from neighbour school. Do all of you mean that he can have a chance to join the camp definitely? Of course, the result should be according to his performance in the camp. There is no any case showing that those plantinum medalist must get a place in any school including NUSH or Hwa Chong. Am I right? -

before invitation to the camp, the kids must pass the dsa test first irregardless whether he got any maths olympaid awards. So first step, the student got to apply for DSA to NUSH. Then go take the test. If pass the test then u will proceed to camp. If pass the camp exercise and meet their requirements, the student will be given confirm offer from NUSH. You can go to NUSH website to understand more....Hi

As vlim said, the first round is to clear the Math/Science written test. If you clear that, you will be invited to attend the camp. If you clear the camp, you will be made either a confirmed offer or waitlist.Hi

Platinum in SMOPS does not guarantee you a DSA offer, although you will stand a better chance. -

My son classmate (2010) from GEP getting Platinum (top 10) also not been selected after second round. -

That's very unusual. He must have messed up in the Science portion or some other part of the camp. -

My DD GEP classmates from RGPS too !! , some of them were not selected or even placed on the waitlist after 2nd round of DSA camp. So for those finally selected are really based on their stringent selection criteria after getting through the rigorous testing. So it is fair to say that whether you are from the GEP or olympaid medalist it does not give you any added advantage. I remember having create a big hooha here with 1/2 forumers on this issue.
Last year DSA plus 10% PSLE cohort was only 140 out of the max of 170 (that means that they don't even \"top up\" the difference). It means that they take in their max of 153 of COs and 17 from PSLE intake. This info is taken from Dr Hang's DSA and Open House presentation on 9 April 2011. Of course a no of those NUSH CO/WLs would also have CO/WL in other top IP schools and they have 2nd thought about putting NUSH as their top choice in DSA Option /preference list. That's why every year1 cohort is about 140-150 of the max 170. The differences would benefit the year 3 intake which can therefore take in more than the 70 max allowed.
So for those die die also must go to NUSH, a WL is almost as good as a confirmed offer !!

I just saw that some tuition centres are offering DSA Intensive workshops to prepare students for entry specifically into NUSH. Whoa!

Personally, I feel the NUSH is so specialised that if u r not cut for it, then better look at other IP schools.
