All About Home Addresses

LOLMum:
met up with some friends on monday and was told that starting this year, there are some changes to the way the schools check the address of the applicant.
heard that the school might ask for the telephone bills (at least 6 months) upon registration. this is to prove that one is geniunely staying at the place and not some \"short term\" residents.
unsure if this is true or old news, as i dont see this on the MOE website. but thought i should share it and parents might want to call schools to confirm.
i think it is useless.
past 6 months staying there does not mean future 6 months still staying there. Having a phone line also does not mean staying there. I do not have a land line to my current home since all of us have mobile.
regardless of the usefulness of the phone bills, my post is to let parents know that schools might ask for documents not listed on the MOE website.
as fat mama said, her tenant was asked by the school to show a minimum 2 years lease in order to register and this i dont think is listed on MOE website.
so it might make sense for parents who are thinking of renting a place to check with school first rather than get a place and find themselves out of the game.
it is better to be safe than sorry especially with so many condos springing up and competition is heating super fast up. -

If you rent an apartment within 1 km of the school, is there a minimum time you need to rent it for before the primary one registration (i.e. how many months before the July Registration Exercise) & can you rent it for only 1 year?
I called MOE last year (2010) when ds was enrolling for P1...
- no min period of staying before the registration period
- official response fm MOE is that if \"you shd rightfully stay in the same address for the next 6 years\"..............they will only tell u like this....but of coz we all know that that's probably not practical
For this year's P1 registration, i'm not sure if rules hv changed, u can call them. -
Hi,
We’re staying within 2km of our school of choice. We’ll be registering under phase 2B parent volunteer scheme. Does anyone know if we can shift house after that? Any regulation governing this? -

there is no law that says you cannot shift house.Hi,

whether the school decides to give your childs place in the school to someone else who lives nearer in future, is a different issue alltogether. -
HI all,
I hope all of you can help me with these issue maybe had discuss before , but no time to search thru 58 pages:-
1) I stayed in SK for 9 years and my parents is my caregiver , can i change my address in NRIC to their address ? I stayed with my parents during the weekdays , only return during weekends.
2) Is there any problem if my address is different from mine. Which address does MOE take?

linsaw:
Where are you staying now? At your own home or with your parents? Rightfully, you should use your own home address which is stated on your NRIC. If you change your address to get your kid an advantage at P1 registration and you are found out, your child will be asked to leave his school. That has happened in the past so don't play play.HI all,

I am an anxious parent looking to register into a primary school for my eldest daughter . As I have two daughters I hear from alot of people where I enroll my eldest daughter into will subsequently affect my second one. Hence, I would like to start off on a right note. I have trawled thru the pages in Kiasuparent and really these are good information to start off any clueless parents about the highly competitive primary school registration. I would like to confirm one point mentioned in one o fhte pages and can anyone assist to verify.
For the use of rental address within 1 km of the desired school for primary one registration, there is a minimum occupation period of the rental address from the time of registration and start of attending school . Another have even gone on to say that some schools require the rental address be maintained for the full 6 years of primary school that child is enrolled in. Is the practice applied by ALL primary one schools? Or specified by certain schools ? Can someone englighten as I certainly do not wish to run afoul with any rules and regulations. Thank you very much. -
Lizzie:
the general rule is that the address used to register should be the address that the child will be staying at during the primary school days. There is no specific clause stating the max or min duration. As long as you are not renting an address to \"creatively workaround\" the rules, then you are safe.I am an anxious parent looking to register into a primary school for my eldest daughter .
