Please don’t sign up any packge with PPP. I personally do not find the laser treatment effective at all. I have gotten the package SGD4,200 (entitles you to 100 points and 4 microlasers/cool touch) to get rid of my pigmentation , a 10 cent coin size solar lentigo on my right cheek. To date after a year of treatment, after more than 50 times (that’s is 50+ points), I still do not see the pigmentation going away, my solar lentigo is still there. It will be better to go to skin specialist where he’ll prescribe the solution specific to your problem instead of spending money on some generic standardised laser which cannot target all kinds of pigmentation . To PPP’s own admission , the laser at their branches has limited wave length and cannot target some pigments (my solar lentigo is of very light brown color, not that serious and perhaps my fair skin magnifies it) . They even suggested I go to their headquarters at Paragon as their laser machines are better but it will cost more points (3 to 5 points each treatment as opposed to 1 point in their PPP branches) The question is why are the laser machines even different. PPP never told me until so much later that I should have gone to the HQ. Each time I ask the doctor if the solar lentigo will go away , he said to give it at least 50 times and it should. It was only recently, they suggested I go to the HQ (but after spending so much points on the branch and the frequent trips) . When I went to the HQ, they even charged me another SGD 100 to see the doctor. I am very disappointed at the service , and it would appear to me that they are more eager to earn more dollars from you than trying to help solve my problem.
In fact in their bid to expand so quickly , they have replaced their usual machines for cool touch to another version which uses heat (yes instead of the cooling gases contrary to the term cool touch). I also recently learnt that PPP is trying to get listed i.e IPO and annual turnover was round SGD 20 million and that explains their sales tactic where they are always trying to get you to sign up for more packages, and push you to buy their masks (quite costly and very low quality – the masks tear very easily) . They are also so restrictive on how you can use the existing points that I have , always claiming that their finance dept is inflexible and system cannot be customised to accept this arrangement. I have paid up SGD 4200 upfront, to receive a bunch of treatment that is not even working and I cannot use the remaining unused points for other treatments – implying that I should continue with the existing laser treatment that is obviously not working,
Actually warning signs should have alerted me to sign up anything with PPP in the first. In the trial session, where you are entitled to 3 sessions, the doctors never took notes not pictures of the initial stage of the pigmentation, secondly they do not even track the state of the progress of the problem and whether the treatment was effective, The entire service/treatment was very unpersonal and feels more like a fast-food/factory assembly line .
Bottom line, don’t waste your money and time. For the kind of money you are paying better off to get a more personalised treatment and the problem be rid once and for all. PPP is more like one size fits all treatment that does not work any every type of problem.

RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
Give everychild an equal base line at least for the starting years of their education such as primary school. The real and true meritocratic system would be purely based on individual’s performance at PSLE , 6 years later down the road, assuming everyone’s enrolled fairly in the different schools based on a equitable system. Yes, everyone’s born different , to different families of different status or income but the system should not accentuate these differences further. The system should at least assure equal playing field at the starting point. If the divide comes early even at such a young age, I cannot imagine the gap could get only wider if the later years.

i am convinced only if the so many ministers / civil servants put their kids in these \"good\" schools....spread it out. take the lead. dont go via 2a or 2b route.
Imami:
But hey, moe says all schools are good schools. So, still painful right?
No two schools are the same and they can never be the same. Yes, they may be purportedly to be good schools. But what is good? what is bad? All that's available to be seen and evaluated are the concrete facts - School results, the CCA provided for, the strenght of the alumnus and the track record. The reason why so called\" branded schools\" are popular are due to reasons such as strong alumni network, the \"name/reputation itself\" carries weight (which may lend credence and favour in the future and prospect of the child), enrichment courses or CCA (which may not be available in some other schools), the environment in which the child studies in and the people they mix around thereby the influence on the child are definitely not and not the same . No matter what is said, that all schools are the same - just think again. Hence, to convince us that all schools are the same, what should be done would be, to reset all the button and allocate students on based on one equitable system- distance . -
RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
Looking at RGPS, P1 registration statistics, over 2 years consistently, at least two applicants living within 1km were balloted out of Phase 2C.
I wonder what they will be thinking (especially if they are still staying within the vicinity of RGPS) if they know that the other 60+ applicants in Phase 2C who were “luckier in the ballots” were of short-term rental and have since moved away.
In fact, the latter’s subsequent sibling(s) will continue to have the “priority” queue in Phase 1 and Phase 2A(2). -

No, there is no reason to \"expel\". There is nothing to \"catch\".phtthp:
suppose got this scenario :-
X rent an apartment < 1 km from Nanyang, 3 months before P1 registration. His child got balloted in, under Phase 2C.
X continued to rent house, for another 2 years.
But when child reach P3, one day X lost his job - financial status changed. X wife not working (housewife). X got to shift out elsewhere far > 2km, can't tahan high costs rental near Nanyang.
question -
will Nanyang expel this child out of school -
if suppose one kaypoh parent's classmate discovered and blow whistle loudly to his form teacher, Principal / VPs, mata ? This type of case - can catch or cannot catch ?
Sorry if you are disappointed.
It is not a loophole. No law can dictate that a family cannot rent a place forever to stay. No law to dictate that family situation cannot change.
Instead, may be even the school would look into how to help the student financially if it becomes very bad......hope this does not incense you, haha
It will be good if because of Pri registration rules, government can tell private sector companies that these parents cannot be sacked and cannot lose their job, otherwise it makes these people by default become fraudster in pri 1 registration as they have to change house to afford cheaper place, not necessary the original was expensive
No issue at all, on where one chooses to stay voluntarily or otherwise, there are so many variables affecting one's lifestyle. It's a democratic society after all .
However, there should be only one principle that should be held true consistently i.e \"distance\" upon which the school placement are allocated for, no? Was this not the basis that the school was allocated in the first place? Once move house, transfer to school nearer to home. That's it.
In the context of financial difficulties, then wouldn't it make more economical sense if the child should get transferred out to the schools nearer to \"new\" home to save on transport? contradicting is it not? -

This will also means that those Bukit Timah schools will only be reserved for the rich only, common folks can only dream on. The current P2A & P2B allows common folks to have a chance in BT school.......
Not true.
On the contrary, by tightening this process , you will allow the less well off to even have a \"fighting chance\" at the balloting table.
The reason is this:
Renting in BT places don't come cheap either , so those currently in P2A (who have benefited from earlier siblings who got in thru rental) are rather well off since they are able to afford 5 k rental pm.
If this process is tightened , then this will leave more spaces for Phase 2C, open to public.
Since RGPS and NGPS are of lower density area , it may even reach a wider distance of potential children beyond the \"traditional\" 1 km (very seldom those staying beyond 1 km, can ever sniff a chance of applying since balloting within 1 km is already rather fierce).
In fact, given these really low residential density of these popular schools, there may even be a possible chance for those staying beyond 2km, 3km (heartlands like holland) or even more to have chance to ve a foot in the door.
As reported in the papers, there is an unhealthy number already dominating Phase 2A.
Investigation should be looked into the breakdown and profile of who these applicants are in Phase 2 A - Alumni? Siblings (got in via merit of distance?
If so, then the subsequent siblings who apply under Phase 2A must continue to stay within the 1/2km distance , otherwise Phase 2C is just a loophole to be abused by the \"rich\" as in your words so decribed .)
On another note, by doing this too, you are keeping the number of those who qualify under Phase 2A (specifically under Alumni status) constant as well . Since if only those who live within the vicinity can apply, it 's only logical that Phase 2A will clearly only be dominated Alumnus status. (rooting out those siblings status but clearly not within distance based). Besides, how many times can one use the address in District 9,10, 11 to qualify for Phase 2 C ? Only once perhaps , since the subsequent children/grandchildren , will in the truest sense of the word be applying under Phase 2 A as an alumnus status . This numbers will be kept rather constant instead of now the unhealthy lopsided numbers dominating Phase 2 A (fed by the loophole in Phase 2 C) which seems to be growing bigger? -

verykiasu2010:
\\it is very difficult, if not impossible, to dictate that one must stay at the address for the duration of the primary school education - family financial situation does change
as long as it is proven no intention at cheating, it should be fine; or if it is proven fraudulent / cheating, then by all means punish them severely
It's next to impossible too to distinguish what' s the fraudulent from the bona fide .
However, what should hold true consistently , is the premise upon which Phase 2C is discharged.
Given that the the premise of qualifying for Phase 2C selection is based on distance, this principle should continue to apply throughout the 6 years of primary education.
Therefore, the bottomline is - once moved house (beyond 1/2km, whether rental or owner occupied) , then your subsequent child (in fact this should also apply to the incumbent first child too, transfer to new school nearer to new home) , should no longer qualify under Phase 2A for P1 registration. It's just too much to continue occupying top priority under Phase 2A for subsequent child when you have clearly \"completed\" abusing the principle of Phase 2C to get a headstart.
One might argue that since the first child is already enrolled into the school, it is just maintaining economies of scale to allow the 2nd ,3rd child to be in the same school as the elder- one stop tranport etc . However, this goes against the grain of the principle of Phase 2C , distance upon which the elder child qualifies for the place in the school. In the first place, there should not be unnecessary ferrying or transport if one clearly continues to stay within 1/2km distance of school.
In addition, by enforcing this strict principle, the school can continuously assure that students who qualify in phase 2 C and remain throughout the 6 years of education, are those who remain within the 1 /2kim radius . It keeps the traffic off the road for everyone else and all the unnecessary ferrying around.
Adminstratively to carry this out, when qualifying for Phase 2A of subsequent child, the administrator should ask for proof of 1st child initial address and distinguish whether rental or owner occupied and the duration of occupation. If proven ,that the occupation was a short-term one, and clearly the new address reflects one beyond 1/2 km, phase 2A should not be open for the 2nd child anymore. The 1st child should also be requested to transfer to the school nearer to new home. This will clear up alot of spaces for people who are vested in their homes within 1/2km for a very long time. This will also clearly deter people going the rental route and create absolute unfair imbalance in Phase 1 and 2A subsequently. -
RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
LOLMum:
If that's the case, it should only be fair then (whether rent or owner occupied) , that once moved house, the child should also move to the school nearer to the new home - since that was the premise one got into the school under Phase 2 C in the first place i.e based on distance.Precisely. As long as one is staying at the address, be it own or rent, used for registration, it is not against the terms and conditions set by moe.
Moe also know it is impossible to insist a family stay put inone place for the full six years or more.
There are just too many, abusing the rental route , mostly for short -term to enrol into popular school by distance. For parents, with two children and more, it makes absolute sense to \"invest\" for just two years of \"rental\" since the subsequent children will autmatically qualify for Phase 2A.
If phase 2C under renting (short-tem) is not curbed, we are only exacerbating the problem of lopsided numbers, reserved for Phase 2A - sibling's priority. -

Read all about renting a place for p1 registration in Straits Times today section Home b3
Looks like a lot of people will be in trouble if complain cases of people who rent short term and move away after the lease (usually two years?) is up and school decides to investigate. -
RE: Do you think there is still a future for our kids...
resgmom:
If senior citizens were to ever to fill up these positions like museum commentators which as you said aren't really jobs, would that not be great? It goes to show that our senior citizens need no longer work at that advance age for a living but rather living to enjoy the finer things in life like sharing knowledge with others.
Museum tour commentators in Singapore are currently staffed by volunteer expat wives (who followed their professional expat husbands to Singapore, with much resources, maid(s) at home, while not having to work). It's a 500+ strong group, and each of them have to pay hundreds of dollars to be trained...there's another weekend group of guides, staffed by Singaporeans. i.e. museum tour commentators are not really \"jobs\" with pay..Lizzie:
\"Then we can see more of our senior citizens taking up jobs like museum tour commentators, tour guides , part-time teachers, less menial (more mentally challenging)\".
