Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
-
Looking at RGPS, P1 registration statistics, over 2 years consistently, at least two applicants living within 1km were balloted out of Phase 2C.
I wonder what they will be thinking (especially if they are still staying within the vicinity of RGPS) if they know that the other 60+ applicants in Phase 2C who were "luckier in the ballots" were of short-term rental and have since moved away.
In fact, the latter’s subsequent sibling(s) will continue to have the "priority" queue in Phase 1 and Phase 2A(2). -
There may a few factors to consider…
Is it in the interest of the kid to change school halfway? new uniform, textbook etc…?
Also, does the new target school have vacancy etc…?
However, if you say once out of range, remove the Phase 1 sibling priority… that may be worth considering… -
Given the assumption and for discussion sake that if once out of range, logically... Phase 2A alumni priority should be removed before Phase 1 sibling priority......

If a child has to live at the registered address for the full 6 years of primary school education, should he get into gep n need to move to the gep school which is maybe 2 km away from his house, then how?
Lagi better, study in school A for one year, pri 2 transfer to choice school, n pri 4 transfer to gep school....wow, his children can choose from 3 primary schools when it is their turn to go for primary one registration  -

Hey, your situation is very very similar to mine. I am also blessed with 3 Primary Schools within 1km - 1 very good, 1 good and 1 no good. How can I find out more about the primary schools? Other than doing PV?
I am a FTWM. Hubby travels often, so if I sign up for PV, chances are I am the only one clocking the hours. Hence, at the very most, I can only sign up PV at one school.
I am definitely not there yet, judging how clueless I am whenever I read posts about “find out the school, if it is suitable for your child”. My first criteria for primary school is proximity and we are blessed with 3 primary schools within 1km – 1 branded one, 1 good PSLE track record neighbourhood one and 1 neighbourhood one (most people who talk about this school either silent or have no good comment about it). I am seriously thinking about the branded one because it is very strong in chinese. No offence meant but if it is one of those very ‘ang mo’ ones, I would not have been interested.
Will appreciate those who have walked the path provide some advices please.
DH was also ex-student from 2 top Pri Schools which we eventually withdrawn due to distance. Since DH and I need to travel occasionally, we can't afford to send DS to school so proximity to home and near parents is the most important. We do not wish to see that poor little boy sitting in the school bus for an hour x 2 ways x 5 days a week.
Follow your heart, if there is at least 50% chance in that school of your choice, you may want to \"gamble\". However, if you are not a risk taker and recent years enrolment shows there is no 2Cs in the 2nd choice school, then you'll need to seriously think about it.

The branded one will need to ballot for 2c within 1km. Based on past trends, it is about 1 vacancy for about 2 applicants. The good one used to have vacancies at 2cs but this year, it has ballot for more than 2pm in 2c. I am quite certain that since we live wihtin 1km to the good one, we shd have no prob getting in at phase 2c. :xedfingers: :xedfingers: -
just put one phase b4 the current phase 1…
that is to let all within 2km register first then continue with the current system… -
KSP:
Er... I personally feel that all those with kid's currently in that school should be given priority and there shd not be any limit for this group. It is very punishing to have one kid in this school and another in that school, if the parents have intended to put them in the same school. For those who choose to put their children in diff school (eg my girl put in chij and my boy go RI), then it's their choice.just put one phase b4 the current phase 1....

Imami:
yes, totally agreed. parents will want to place children in the same school for logistic reason among other things.
