      Thanks Callie for your input.

Is your kids with Mind Stretcher Math class or The learning Lab? This is the first time putting my son in a tution centre so hopefully it helps him in his problem sum's 'thinking' skills.

My girl is not doing he Math in TLL or Mind Stretcher yet... she is with another enrichment centre... which does more conept understanding and buidling... but i have seen materials from TLL and MS so i roughly know lor... My girl just went for TLL proficiency test last night and she said it's super tough.... she doesn't know what the questions are asking. Well, shall wait for the results...

Hi callie, stumble upon your post in another thread..was just hoping u could share which centre u sent your daughter to? Im interested abt the concept understanding coz I feel my son needs exposure on that..

Just to share with all here,my son is currently with Enopi,no doubt I feel the speed in his calculation improved but when comes in understanding certain concept, he's still not there yet..so I think Enopi math is not so much on concept building..and its difficult too coz its not on par with MOE syllabus. My son is in P1 now..Thinking of switching him to Mindstretcher Maths, anyone can add more input on it? Thanks πŸ™‚

my son is in P2 just started maths with mind stretcher and went for so far 2 lessons. notice their math worksheets are more challenging then those given in the school, which to me is good, at least it excercise their mind. The teacher will teach them and let them do a few worksheet based on what she taught and they were given a set of SA paper to be done at home for homework.

Btw, whc centre do u send your son to? Did he complain and such tht the paper is tough? Im so afraid my son couldnt take the pressure and will give up interest on maths totally if too much of brain squeezing..
Boys being boys, they have lack of self discipline as compared to girls..to them they will absorb more thru play. Unfortunately that didnt apply to SG system..:(
Hmm have prob with my boy..

yes boys are very different from girls and are lacking on self discipline, so i hv to keep pushing and pushing. My son can attempt to the questions, most questions he is able to solve, maybe sometimes 2 or 3 questions need a little bit more thinking or he never attempt before, he will 'refuse' to think and say he dunno how to do. But some other challenging questions he can do :?

At times they are so used to those striaght forward questions and when they see those questions (in assessment books or tution worksheets), they did not excercise their brain to think of the solution, so conveniently say he dunno how to do.

H Callie, did your girl go for both Maths and English tests? How long are the tests? Is she attending TLL now? I am looking at English for my P1 ds (TLL and/or TAS). Am very keen to start him at TAS but trying to work out a schedule that is available as TAS has very few P1/P2 classes. As for TLL, recent posts in forum seem to indicate that alot of good teachers have left and classes not having permanent teachers. Does this apply to P1 classes too? Thanks for sharing![/quote]Yes my girl is with TLL doing her P1 English.

She went for the English Proficiency Test last year and we just went for the Maths earlier this month. Got the Maths results last week and was offerred a class in weekday but I would prefer a weekend class which is currently not available. However, I am still very happy with her Maths results and her current enrichment centre so no loss...

Heard and read so much about TAS too... but can't fit into their schedule... It's not because TLL is no good. In fact, TLL is VERY good... my girl's teacher is fantastic and my girl loves her. It's the skyhigh fees that I am finding it a bit siong... hence did look around and found that the materials from Mind Stretcher were quite good and TAS was very strong in creative writing...

I have called Creative Campus and spoke to a very friendly teacher for P1/P2. She has been with TLL for 14 years and she has shared many good pointers with me. I thank her for that. She told me my girl's teacher is one of the very experienced teacher in TLL and my girl is lucky to have her as teacher. Hence, she hopes that I can rethink about withdrawing from TLL and continue to monitor my girl's progress. I am not too sure about other teachers but currently, I will heed the advice and stick to TLL.

She might not have the speed but I can tell she understands the questions and what is being asked. I think speed can be sharpened at home by more practise, which I do quite a lot by giving her the assessments to do. It's the teaching and explaining maths concepts that I need help on... and this is taken care of by her maths enrichment teacher. I have seen P1 Maths materials from Mindstretcher, not bad at all but am not able to comment on the quality of teachings. They go by monthly fees of $110/month so might be a good idea to try out for 1/2 months to have a feel.

Same as my DS too..I have to keep pushing and reminding what n how to do..Sometimes learning became unpleasant coz we have to keep up with the system..very challenging!

                  Callie
I agree with you that speed comes with practise which is why im beginning to feel Enopi just not right for him.
The centre your girl went to, whats the ratio of teacher to students?
My son has been with Mindstretcher(English) for about 5 mths already..I find their approach is good and on track with what the education system need. Then again, its only once a week lesson, still need reinforcement by us parents..

Mindstretcher English is similar to TLL in many ways... I have seen some of their worksheets and content pages.... but TLL materials are slightly more current and interesting and more difficult... That's my own opinion. I did contemplate to switch my girl to Mindstretcher but so many people are telling me the teacher my girl has is very good, and so tough to get in, give my girl some more time to see progress...so I am sticking to TLL now.

The ratio is 8 students to a teacher for my girl's math enrichment class...

We definitely have to reinforce all the enrichment materials... my girl has to spend 2 nights doing her homework from TLL... and one night for chinese spelling from倩下 and to complete her Maths homework from her enrichment class... actually more work to do.

They renovated the school and now it's call YO:HA??
So the place looks pretty new now......and there's a wushu (TEN) school there too (run by this ex-actor Weng Qing Hai). So you can hear him HOO-&-HAA there.

                      Rgds,
                      Hi,

Can you advise if the maths and english at MS @ Yo:Ha center is good? My daughter is in P1 and right now not attending any tuition (only home tuition for mandarin).

I personally coach her on English and Maths. So far good. But as she progresses, I worry that I will not do justice to her  .

Thought of enrolling her for maths and english at MS @ Yo: Ha. Pls advise if anybody's kid attends classes there and how is the teaching there..

                      concerned parent

                        hi,

Trying my very best to guide my P2 girl on English creative writing. Get her to read more books and also cultivate the habit of copying interesting phrases onto a small notebook. Reiterated the Ws of whos, what, when, where, how, why also. But still it's a battle when it comes to composition times...... 😒 😒 😒

I tried plouging the tons of materials here to see if there are good schools teaching creative writing...But realise that a lot of times the school practises memorising and copying so-called model compositions...which I feel is not the \"right\" way. Ultimately, I don't want to spoon-feed but teach her how to \"fish\".....

Anyone with recommendation on a small group tuition on English creative writing? Or anyone has experience wih Writers Toolbox at Mind Stretcher Bishan?

I am tearing my hair out.....Very soon will go botak liao :stupid: :stupid:

                        Thanks.

                        Rgds,
                        Ming
