I can’t find P5 Chinese thread so I hope it is okay to tag on here.


I would appreciate any sharing of good methods and resources(reference books/assessment books/sites) to brush up on 虚词 ?

Reading chinese books - yes but need a more focus and speedier method
Resources - have checked popular and seen the SAP booklet but need better & more.

I think the correct answer should be #2.

The 1st one should be 降临.

I refer the PSLE CL year 2006 - 2010 Booklet for reference and there is a question similar to the above structure and the following is the asnwer:

意思是指xxxxxxxxxx

If sentence (1) is considered right, I do not understand why sentence (2) is wrong. In fact, I thot sentence (1), the use of 夜色is wrong. 夜色is refer to the colour of the night sky. It should be use this way : 夜色迷人，夜色优美. 夜色 is, strictly speaking, not to be used as a measurement of 'time'. 夜晚 or 黑夜should be used in place of 夜色.

Sentence (2) is correct. I cannot spot any wrong (grammatically or logically) in it. :roll:

IMO, 降临 and 来临 can be interchangeably used.

I see your points and now I am utterly confused !


There are 4 options and we have to choose the ONE which is CORRECT.
临 is a must-know word from the text so the question is designed to test understanding the difference between 降临 and 来临, I think.

Given these 2 (the other 2 options confirmed wrong), which is the ONE which is correct ?

1。 夜色来临前，鸟儿都飞回它们的窝里。 <--- answer key says this one is correct
2。 每当春天来临时，公园里就开满了鲜艳的花朵

Anyone can help clarify ? Someone with Chinese as first language ?

p/s: this is a question from TN 2010 SA1 paper.



In fact, at P5 there are many of such very close 词语 so I hope everyone can contribute more questions and answers for discussion on this thread.
