She is supposed to wake up at 5.30am everyday... her work schedule ends at 9.30pm (with an hour for her to clean up herself)... total of 8 hours sleep... when i say wake up late, she can wake up late by 20-60mins.. got once, a wkend.. she didnt wake up till 7am! :x

Erm, the maid has to get up so early and only gets to sleep at 9.30pm? Sorry to say, no offence but I think your maid's working hours are too long. Can you imagine yourself waking up at that same time, then work almost the whole day until 9.30pm (of course yes, with some short rest in between) and not forgetting she still needs to 'take your order' as and when is needed. Just try putting yourself in their shoes.

I do not say this because I do not have any experience with foreign live-in maids. I do.

Btw, I think next time you should indicate how late is your late to avoid any unhappiness btw the two of you because your maid can say you are the one who said can wake up late but you did not indicate how late it is while you are unhappy over her 'buay zi dong'.
I don't think you have understood the situation fully... she gets 1.5hours lunch break in her schedule... work ends at 8.30pm.. and 1hour to washup... so, she can be in bed by 9.30pm... she is at home ALONE all day... so, no one to bark orders at her to do anything extra...

MOM's ruling is 8hrs of sleep minimum for maids... so, i dont understand why you say its long workg hours?

Even us as professionals... i wake up at 545am everyday... ferry my son to cc... and then work in offc till 6pm... pickup my son.. sometimes, my maid just prep the food and i still gotta cook cos she still havent learn to cook decently... and i have regular concalls with my US counterparts at 10 or 11pm... i sleep at 12midnight or later, but still wakes up at 545am everyday... is there an issue???

And I have a work schedule for my maid... so, i dun understand why you say I didnt tell her wat is late? In working for me, I've told her countless of times... that waking up late is a no-no...

OH.. and pls note... i care for my toddler at home... she is not the main caregiver... just housewk alone and the cooking or prepping of food... or if my hub is not at home, and i need to go shower etc.. then she helps with the kid...

Anyway... i was just trying to rant... i treated her well and know it... just that she lied to me about extending and then giving me all the troubles to hunt for a new maid out of the blue...

btw.. need your tots... as I can't recall how my new maid was like when she arrived...

I did 3 phone interviews for the last 2 days... all of the new indo maids can't even converse in english... the agent told me new ones are like this... need to be trained.. am really feeling headache cos I can't rem if my current maid was like this too??

#1: can answer me that she has a kid.. but when i ask if she can cook, and whether she work before... all cannot answer.

#2: just laugh and laugh.. n the indo agent was next to her making so much noise that i dun even know who is talking... so, i will not take this maid for sure!

#3: she can answer me her age.. the rest is all the local agent ask in bahasa and she translate to me... agent told me its normal... cant help it for new agent.. unless i wanna pay $450 for ex singapore maids...

ARGGGHHHH... can u mommies share if ur new indo maids are like this too?? tks in advance! 😄
SMH Forest, if you need your new maid to start work with minimal supervision, suggest you take ex-SG maids instead ? We did phone interviews and had the same issues you mentioned. If cannot communicate, would sure vomit blood. Anyway, it also depends on how your agency negotiates with the local agency there. I have heard new experience hires taking $380. Anyway, Good luck with your search! 😎

OIC! My maid wakes up everyday at 6.30 am while I wake up at 7 am. My boy will wake up at about 7.30-7.45 am then she will attend to him. On the few rare occasions I woke up at about 7 am and she still has not woke up (& clean herself up, open up the curtains, doors, collect newspapers, put away dinner dishes, boil hot water etc), I would feel :x .

Such times, after I finished brushing my teeth & opening the doors etc (with some noise!), she would have jumped up already, apologize then quickly go about doing her stuff.

At night she went into her room at about 9.30 or 10 pm depending on what time we can settle our boy into the bedroom. Not sure what time she sleeps but definitely not immediately since she would catch up on the news or music on her hand-phone.

Definitely no sleeping beyond 7 am when the sky is already in full brightness outside! :!:
          😉

I used to just make noise.. then realised that even after i've washed up, she is still sleeping happily in her rm! So, now i bu ke qi and will just knock on her door to wake her up... The morn tasks that she has to do is similar to your maid too... so, to me.. its a no-no to wake up late.. we have to head to work n send boy to cc.. so i dont tolerate waking up late..
Just rant here - keep your sanity in check 😉 Your maid is acting this way as she super bochap liao, bent on returning. If she's alone all day at home, then all the more she should make effort to wake up to assist with morning rush and catch up on some rest later when she finishes her chores. Can you get the agent to knock some sense into her ? I think the agents usually have a way of managing them.

Agree with littlefly, if your maid is alone all day at home, she can rest in the afternoon so should wake up early to help out.

              hi SMH Forest,

I can sense the frustration you are experiencing. Gosh, I don't believe whole day ALONE at home she doesn't nap. My ex-maid quietly went to take naps when my mum and kids were napping....she was found out by my son who didn't want to take nap and just innocently told us that maid was sleeping in the afternoon.

For anyone thinking I'm ill-treating her - she wakes up at 6am, and gets to sleep at 8pm. She is a light sleeper so if she takes anymore naps, she's not going to be able to sleep at night. There's not much to do at home, only cleaning so I understand if she's very bored; but at least pick up a book to read or something.

Good luck with your new hire.

In the past, I slept lesser than my maid when my 3 kids slept with me and hb. Maid slept in another room all by herself. I gotta wake up several times in the middle of the night to make milk for my kids. I let my maid rest well in the night so that she can take care of my bb well during day time.

Littlefly - ex Singapore are really too expensive… i know it may save me the headaches, but I do think they are not worth so much to pay for… there’s 1 agency that quoted me FRESH NEW INDO at $450, and ex SG at $550!!! from the current $350… that’s $1.2k to $2.4k difference a year!

thanks thanks… yes… i do need to rant… thats why i joined this forum… becos i believe many of the employers here will understand my issues… tks!! will def try to stay sane!

LKVM - i guess, it doesnt matter any more… she will just have to go…

tigger88 - yes… n i even gave her a longer than usual lunch break so she can take a break n rest… yeah… the same goes for me… my boy is taken care by me… i always make sure he is my responsibility… cos’ i dont believe in passing on the care of kids to the maid…

hquek - haha… i dont believe either… but i dont install cams so i have no idea what she does too… what i do know is that since she is alone, she will take her own SWEET time to do the work… sometimes, i dont see our clothes for 2 wks! being home all week, i seriously doubt why clothes can disappear for soooo long! tks… i do hope to hire one soon and hopefully a good one too!

micollh - yes… n we always give our bosses respect… i just find that these helpers dont even respect us at their employers… so, that is really frustrating at times!

True, the maid must fit into OUR schedule and not the other way round! Next time my boy go to primary school, the timings would surely all the adjusted to much earlier as well!
                      😉

Yes, they are all 400 - 450... no lower than this amount... So, the ones I interviewed... new maids, are all at $400...

Pay SGD450 get experienced maids with at least 2 years of experience with no English language problems! Unless the SGD50 really makes such a big diff. to you but if it can resolve a lot of communication & training problems, it would be worth it...my humble opinion.
                        😉
