But is this bit of info taught in P6? Can some P6 parent confirm this?[/quote]I think as per syllabus they have to know that PE is directly proportional to mass and that PE is directly proportional to height(distance from ground)
Similarly that KE is proportional to Mass and velocity.

Well its is good to know the formula if the child s capable of handling it. It really helps when understanding more complex questions

Guess this is a \"Sieve-the-Genius-from-the-Mundane\" Kind of Q so that Not So Many Kids can score Full Marks, or A* in the Exam?

MOE policy makers are not educators...how could they possibly have a good vision and strategy...basically the kids are all guinea pigs. For one thing, the EDUCATION minister needs to be changed bcos he is not suitable.
This idiotic slogan is the cause of brain drain...well-heel parents will want to send their kids overseas for a more all-rounded education. My son is in P5, and daughter in P1...she is taught heuristics now and models :rant: Not only that, she is also taught connectors like Synthesis.

I think it's depends on the school. some schools wanted to show other schools that they are very high standard, or they are providing high quality education. As aresult their school will become branded school. we parents are also attracted to those branded schools and end up doing pv, changing locations etc. etc.

I don think all the schools are teaching models in P1. because my dd was introduced models in p2 term 1. children need some maturity to understand the logical thinking. poor thing your dd. but luckey you are her mummy. :salute:

I was wondering why daughter was introduced to models/heuristics at P1. Know what I did after seeing her Maths worksheets ? I passed all of them to hubby and got him to go through with her...I am hopeless with Maths as it is, not to mention heuristics.

My DD2’s teacher covered model drawing second half of P1.

But the easy peasy straightforward ones only that requires
direct answer first before moving on to two step math qns.

Actually, this period should be THE time all the parties involved...be it PAP, SDP or WP etc, should ask WE the voters what we want and not what they can deliver if voted. Shouldn't this be the case, since they want to be voted ???

regarding P1 to P6 Maths modeling - last Sat april 23, Dr Yeap Ban Har conducted a seminar for parents at RGPS, teaching Bar modeling method. Costs $30 per parent. He taught from scratch, slowly went thru all questionsand solution in detail one by one - meant for P1 students, P2, P3, P4, P5 and P6 PSLE qns.


after the seminar, then he uploaded solutions into his blogspot:

you may download his answers into powerpoint slides. Parents can follow bar modeling method by going thru all powerpoint slides, step by step. Dr. Yeap taught parents from ground 0, assuming 0 based knowledge.

for problem 6 on apples, pears, oranges, he show two methods of solving - both bar method, plus conventional algebra method.

for the last problem on equilateral triangle, he show solution using x, y method.

Not demo. Play. It was play. All play. We didn't have a TV at that time and I dislike playing games. So I searched about for activities to amuse and entertain him. I didn't know and didn't explain any scientific principles etc... we just had fun watching what happened when stuff was put together in a certain way. When he got old enough to ask why, I tried to explain. After a while, he learnt to google because I really dunno much.

Back then, I had no intention of helping him score in Science so I followed no syllabus. Anything that looked like fun, we did. However, it gave him a passion for Science and developed observation and analytical skills in such a way that when it comes to answering Science OE, no one really had to teach him to use key words etc... It came naturally to him.

I got a lot of ideas from a book... 365 Simple Science Experiments with Everyday Materials by E. Richard Churchill, Louis V. Loeschnig and Muriel Mandell. Illustrated by Frances Zweifel. Published by Black Dog and Leventhal Publishers.

I am very very curious. Saw a mommy using Sec1 compre and cloze passage for her current P4 GEP child. Is GEP really so far ahead? I know they are taught P6 Maths, but Sec 1…gosh.

Is your kid in GEP? From what I know, GEP is using a different syllabus and there is no textbooks for English, Maths and Science, so it is kind of difficult to gauge at what level it is pegged against.
