Lynn2:

Hi Chenonceau,

Thanks for the great tips.

May I ask, what about for the upper pri students, who want to build up good tension for the compo?what is the way to go about in doing it?thank you.

Cheers
Lynn2
Improving Story

I broke up story building from compo writing. I did that in early P4 to stimulate the imagination. For every suite of pictures, I asked for 5 alternative story lines. Then I picked one that I like. Keep doing this until your child can generate fast and well an interesting story line with a twist. This is a fun activity because Mommy and Kid can both let their imagination run wild.

We try to think what everyone will write, and we do the opposite... or something unexpected.

Using Yummy Adjectives
After you write the essay. Go through every sentence and add in yummy adjectives. This trains the child to use big words.

Write short sentences
Shorter sentences protects the child from grammar errors.

Characterize
Focus on one character in the pictures and give it a personality that is a bit exaggerated.

Put all this together and you will spice up your writing a bit. I hope it helps. This is what I did with my son.

Have you tried...

(1) starting the compo with its end?
(2) hint throughout the compo about the ending?
(3) describe situations of great fear/ happiness without revealing the reason

I'm not really the best person to advise. We kinda do it without really knowing how we do it. I hope this helps.
Good tips. Thanks for sharing.

Hello all daddies and mummies,

Guess all must be busying coaching kids for SA1 πŸ˜‰ . Me too πŸ˜› . Taking a break to log into KSP to rest my mind πŸ‘…

Yesterday was at Jurong West (again) for some domestic errands and my \"legs carried me into\" this small traditional bookshop. Can't resist the temptation and went to the assessment books section πŸ˜‰ . Alas, saw the book(s) - Basic English Grammar by Learners Publication, which I remember Janet & Plum-Cake had recommended in one of the forum thread. [p.s. I try to upload the pic using this new \"upload image to tinypics plugin\" but it does not work leh 😒 😒

http://www.learners.com.sg/productdetail.aspx?id=252&cid=1

So \"coincidentally\" , they left only with one copy each of the blue colour and the yellow colour. So being member of the \"KiasuParents\" - I went to the cashier and bought them! :!: The cashier lady was very polite and said,\" I left with only these 2 copies in my shop and won't be placing anymore orders. I will only place order towards the end of the year when they come together with the school textbooks!\" πŸ˜‰

So, part of 1st $600 went to these 2 books and the rest (hopefully πŸ™ ) I can save some for the June Holidays when Popular has the 20% Discount Vouchers. :celebrate:

You are a fast worker πŸ˜„ ...Me have not stepped out of the house since this morning 😞 - Being running through DD1's assessment books & guide books and those past years' exam papers. Taking breaks to log into this forum and she is now having bicycle -ride in the neighbourhood park.

Hi Champion,

Was taking a break, so went out to popular since ds is too free, nothing much to do, so I thought might as well get him some assessment book to warm him up before he enters pri one.

All the best to your dd sa1.

cheers
