Please help with the following:

Jack read 18 pages of a book on Saturday. He read 5/9 of the remainder on Sunday. He still had 1/3 of the book left. How many pages are there in the book?

I really don't know how to tackle fraction kind of question. Please advise how to improve on this?

Btw, the information 25 is not necessary. If this is a maths olympiad problem,
students will recognise this as
a < b < c
a+b = 56
a+c = 68
b+c = 74
Then they are supposed to realise that
a+ b + c = (56 + 68 + 74) / 2 = 99.
Then to find c, the largest number : 99 - 56 = 43.
The author is being very kind and helpful by giving the clue 25 =).

well, I guess that since 25 was given, this wouldn't be a Maths Olylmpiad question then. It's just a P6 level question. For a typical P6 student, the 25 clue would be a big help.

Another P6 question and I wonder if the question is correct;
Mr. Wong had 207 apples and oranges. After he had sold 50% of the apples and 40% of the oranges, he had 45 more oranges than apples left. How many fruits did he have left?

I guess you just want to confirm the answers.

I did a quick check, and the answers are 81 oranges and 36 apples giving a total of 117 fruits.
