      i usually mash the bananas, and it just turn darkened, dun look nice.

        Hi mommies,


        Can anyone share how to make nutella cupcakes?
        Tried making some yesterday but the nutella was in a lump, rather than nicely spread out.
        I had tried to "soften" the nutella by stirring them in a bowl over hot water, but after "dropping" them into the cupcakes, did the swirl, they are not nicely spread out.
        How come?
        Any better way to do it?

          Nonya kueh considered cake? Been making so many western style bakes, thought I will switch gear and get in touch with one half of my roots.


          Kueh Salat, turned out a bit more like Kueh Salah, think I losing touch with my roots liao. The glutinous rice part was nice but the top, well think the recipe needs to be tweaked. Edible but not fantastic.

            Wow Funz, the Kueh Salat looks really delicious. My favourite among the Nonya kueh. :love: My aunt makes very good Kueh Salat but her recipe is by agaration.

            I tried googling for some recipes online but haven't had time to try making it. Noticed that we've got to use lots of coconut milk for the top, and that's one thing that's holding me back for a while...

            What I pop into my mouth without knowing the recipe is fine, but once I know what's being put inside, I'd think twice about making it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰

              Yup the amount of coconut milk used is :!: . I replaced 1/4 of it with low fat fresh milk. Coconut milk is added in the glutinous rice as well.

              This is not a kueh for the health conscious. But then which nonya kueh is.

              In total, this recipe called for 1 litre of thick coconut milk to 6 eggs and 400g of glutinous rice.

              If you like the taste of your auntโ€™s kueh salat, get the estimated recipe from her and figure out from there.

              The kueh I made this time kinda rough round the edges. The rice is ok but the top part, well too floury in texture and it did not set well. I had to re-steam it for a long time for it to fully set.

                  This 'blue pattern' is from some kind of purplish flower, (forgot the name), very typical for Nonya Kueh.

                    It's made from flowers? I didn't know that. All the while I thought they were using some kind of blue dye. Even their Nonya Dumplings also must put the blue stuff. I find too much colouring. :roll:

                      Genuine Nonya Kueh will use that flower, not colouring. Try telling the Peranakans that they use colouring for their Nonya Kueh, think they will skin you alive! :lol:

                        I've checked, yes the blue colour comes from the Blue Pea Flower or Bunga Telang. ๐Ÿ˜‰
