Thanks SAHM_TAN, my boy is july baby. I too let him play with home made play dough 🙂 but he just likes to roll them into small pcs. tried to play with him and show him to create other shapes or make them into other things but he just is not interested. He loves to paint and draw too. but he would only draw circles or spirals and interpret them as \"houses\" \" monsters\" etc ... tried to get him to draw items but he too refused...oh he likes puzzles too.

I have been looking for a tool-box toy too but have not found anything we like.

the knex link is not available. Many thanks !

In the beginning my kids also make small pieces, only later than progress. Initially also just circles but when motor skills is better plus more exposure from school will draw other stuff. My son's into shapes, so he draw shapes, my DD is into flowers so that is her fav subject now.

          Here's the link http://www.knex.com/Educators/Models_That_Move.php
decided this for my kids, since US dollars now low. You can check out amazon too.

For the tool box, this is what I bought for my boy, very simple one http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8WC1ZJ1-QVE/TJjZXeUpoJI/AAAAAAAAA98/7efFh7E5sko/s1600/821374-821440+My_First_Tool_Box.jpg

          from http://cozyiotoys.blogspot.com

The tool box becomes the base for the nails, nuts and bolts to \"attach\" the smaller pieces of wood.

IKEA has a more complicated one

When the motor skills is better, drawings and writing will progress

I may get the value tub to let DS try first, not sure if he likes it.

the tool box looks really good, i think the size of the pieces are good for small hands but the nuts not many though. i think this is better than those plastic ones at kiddy palace. I have bought the ikea toolbox, but he did not seem interested yet. He played with the pieces separately … hmm think time to bring it out again.

I bought this set for my boy :
K'NEX Education: Intro to Simple Machines: Gears
                http://www.knex.com/Shop/product.php?productid=16802

K'NEX Education: Intro to Simple Machines: Wheels, Axles and Inclined Planes
                http://www.knex.com/educational_toys/to_simple_machines_wheels_axles_inclined_planes.php

He can make many models of real world machines from these sets, not only cars. These sets are very educational even for adults. Recommended age is 8+, but my boy can play them independently at 6 years old. I bought these sets from amazon using direct shipping.

Sorry can't give any suggestion. For my case, I tried contacting their customer service for help but there was no reply. In the end, I purchased my set thru' my friend who is returning from USA.

Maybe you want to consider a set that is available at amazon?
