Edwin and Hubert have 111 marbles altogether. 1/3 of Edwin’s marbles is 5 more than 1/5 of Hubert’s marbles. How many marbles does Hubert have?

Boys []+14 []+14 []+14 []+14 []+14 []+14
Girls []+14 [\t 70\t]\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
168 / 2 = 84\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
84 / 6 = 14\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
2 units + 14 + 14 = 70\t\t\t\t\t\t
1 unit = 21\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
Boys at first = 6 units x 21 = 126

After equal number of boys n girls joined the campfire, boys became twice as amny as girls.
So the first (1unit+14) of the boys n girls r the same, 2nd and 3rd (1unit+14) of boys = 70 of girls (84-14=70).
the 2 units +14+14 from Boys = (1unit+14)+(1unit+14) = 70 from Girls

Actually your earlier working that confused me. I think the working should be:

Boys []+14 []+14 []+14
Girls []+14 [ 70 ]

instead of

Boys []+14 []+14 []+14 []+14 []+14 []+14
Girls []+14 [ 70 ]

Gd morning! I’ve pbs with following ques from Nanhua paper for last yr.


1) Jill had $5 more than Tom at first. After Jill spent $2, she had thrice as much as Tom. How much did Jill have at first? (can someone pls show me the model diagram?) Is it possible to show the workings in whole number rather than in decimal point form?

2) Mrs Tan bought a sack of rice on Monday and cooked 11/2kg of the rice everyday. By Sunday, she was 1/2kg short of rice. On which day did she cook 3/5 of the rice in the sack? (They only provided the answer but not workings in steps.)
