My son now can read on his own with HYPY and even got him a teacher here to guide him along. He is now in P1, so not time to let him learn alone. Initial stage like K1, K2 is the only time he starts to pick up his Mandarin and Chinese's character. Now he can even write a 2 full pages of composition on his own. All thanks to his chinese tutor.

Now I am encouraging him to read more so that he will knows what is happening around him. He is also learning what is the things he knows in english but not in Mandarin. In the past, he didnt know what is a lizard in mandarin, pihu. He thought pigu= butt. someone said that pihu=lizard will drops its tail. He asked me, mom why pigu will drop its tail when I have no tail? I laughed out.

Thanks for the advise. Reading is really good for kids.

Thats the fun part of having kids. They are so naive and clean. I just love seeing them growing day by day. Each day is a new history for tomorrow.

Ask my dd to practice writing, her tears will roll. She would continue writing while grumbling 'I hate Chinese' & then get full marks for her tingxie nevertheless


I guess I've given up hope that she would fall in love with Chinese one day. I'm very grateful if she would just endure it

similar book like \"Zi Xing Hua\" will probably have more interesting factor in recognition of words.

Besides this, I explain to my child that learning chinese is not matter of choice. give her numerous example of benefit of learning chinese.

my ds1 who doesn't speak good mandarin (he usually translates his english thoughts to mandarin before speaking) considers Chinese as his favourite subject (as of now ). i have to thank Berries' (again ) teachers and his current batch of chinese classmates (although i think he is in the bottom tier in his Chinese class, he relish the exposure to his fellow classmates' superb chinese diction - guess i'm lucky that he overcome the initial stress). have to thank Chief too for the e-dict too
He doesn't always get full marks though, but i'm just glad i don't have to nag at him to practise tingxie and doing chinese workbook and his chinese handwriting (not as much if compared to english handwriting :roll:).

so sleepy, i think your girl just need to be in the right 'environment' and be motivated by the right teacher to bring out her potential (don't like chinese but still can get full marks...surely have good foundation ).

so sleepy, i think your girl just need to be in the right 'environment' and be motivated by the right teacher to bring out her potential (don't like chinese but still can get full marks...surely have good foundation ).
