May I ask, how is it possible to read widely? I have a child, she’s currently in secondary 1, and she is thinking about going for the test for year 3 next year (well, it’s always good to plan ahead). She really loves NUSH. But recently, she did not do very well in her math test… And is probably rather discouraged. I’m not sure how she feels, she does not want to talk about it.
what can i do? -
BGR problem?
-
I’m sorry, but what does "BGR" mean?

BGR = Boy Girl Relationship -
Nono… Definitely not.
I guess it could be a little study "slip". -

Just to share with parents/students planning for y3 intake (about 70 per year including oversea scholars). The NUSH year 1/Year 2 curriculum is the so-called foundation year for Maths and Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and Integrated humanities. It is a crash and super fast-track programme literally. Accordingly, NUSH students at end of year 2 are technically in the position to take their so-called \"O\" level examination respectively. The y3/y4 curriculum is at the advance level or \"A\" level equivalent level. So parents of prospective y3 students, do take note of this aspect. Of course those students who are successful in y3 selection are given an extra \"classes\" to keep up with existing cohort. -
I see… So does it mean that the NUSH pupils are kind of strong in everything, not only in math and science? So they’re actually all-rounders?

I am merely highlighting the curriculum differences and expectation required to join year3.
My youngest DD is in year 1 NUSH. At same time ,I have another DD in mainstream sec 3/express doing triple science with Literature/humanities this year. I can see the direct comparison between my two DDs in terms of their curriculum, the pace and amount of homework/project/coursework and more importantly the expectation/std required by NUSH programme.
For my DD in Sec 3, it seems like her Maths/triple science programme only kick start in Sec 3. For a mainstream to join NUSH in year3, she/he must really read ahead or acquired all the Maths/triple science \"tuition\" in sec 1 and 2 for them to be ready to join NUSH year 3.
Anyway, there will be a screening test for these 40/50 Singaporean /PR students knowing that about 30/20 places are also given to oversea scholars. -

Okay… Thanks for your information. But I have a question. Is the amount of homework/assignments like, gigantic? Does your daughter stay up till the wee hours of the morning to complete them? -

You can imagine the difference between P6 (EL/CL/MA/SC) and NUSH1 (EL/CL/BIO/PHY/CHEM/MA/ DAvInCI/INT HUMANITIES/JAPanese). I would say the amt of homeworks/assignments to be done and the scope of their study are enormous but then most NUSH1 students are managing and coping well.@walterp
