All About Full-Time Maids

Hi jtoh,
Think polyclinics shd be the cheapest (don’t sure whether any loading for foreigners) - but may have to wait for appointment. NTUC Denticare is also q.ok in terms of pricing, I think. -
QuiteKSMum:
Thanks QuiteKSMum. I just called the polyclinic. They advised that maids go to private clinics because price at polyclinic will be similar to that of private for maids. Will check out NtUC Denticare. Thanks.Hi jtoh,

Hi Jitoh,
Better to check price of NTUC Dental too. I visit them twice in 2009, was shocked at the price. 1st time ~$200 (some complexII polishing & scaling, simple amalgram on top of molar etc. 8 mths later another $260 (same stuff).
Frankly, I used to put braces, my teeth are straight and big with no overlapping, what’s so complex about my teeth? Next, the dentist didn’t even consult me on whether I want certain treatment or not (eg. floride gel?), he just ask me open mouth, shove it in. Then tell me he’s doing some treatment for me. The whole process is quite fast too (scaling, polishing, amalgram etc)…
Gave them the benefit of doubt first time…2nd time, convinced that I will not go to NTUC Dental again. And not to forget, the price I paid is supposed to be discounted as I’m a NTUC policy holder.
Well, that’s my experience, not sure about others…
I tried JMC last month, intend to go back JMC next time. However, I do not know what is the rate for foreigners. -
Wah! Thanks cwc. What’s JMC?

Hi Jtoh,
JMC - Jurong Medical Center. -

2 years ago my maid needed extensive dental treatment which includes extraction, crowning and making of dentures. I asked her to go to NUH as it's cheaper (treatment done by dentistry students). I paid half of her treatment and gave her monthly time off (about half a day) for her weekdays treatments. It took > one year to complete all her treatments. Cheaper but she suffered a bit because the student is still OJT.Where do your maids go to for dental treatment? Polyclinics or private clinics?
Are dental fees covered by the employer?
Thanks. -

cwc, why they charged u so high? I extracted my wisdom tooth there in 2009, cost $500. - thought this is a q. a decent px. I normally go to the Parkway branch, the dentist wh I used has gd skills too, hardly any pain.Hi Jitoh,

Anyway, jtoh, what type of dental treatment yr helper need? Complicated or not - I know of pple who go to JB to do theirs, for complicated stuff.
Last time my helper, simple toothache, I let her try Qing cao you 1st, 1 bottle $2 plus nia. -

What is Qing Cao You?
My maid had very bad breath when she first came to work for me over a year ago. I asked her why and she said she had bad teeth. Now one year later, she's complaining of very bad toothache. Says there's a cavity. Says the pain is coming from under her jaw. I suspect the cavity's gone deep into the roots. She's scared to go to the dentist because they'll extract her tooth. I told her no choice if that's the case.
