Can't blame Eric Tan of WP for feeling \"betrayed\". after all the hard work and being one of the most experienced members in the party, he is now bypassed for a NCMP post. Can imagine his utter disappointment...just like an older hard worker being bypassed for a promotion to a younger colleague who just joined the company.
Eric Tan, said to be leader of WP East Coast team, announced that he is quitting WP as he felt betrayed.

WP is choosing a younger team member to be the NCMP instead of Eric Tan

      :celebrate:

hopefully it is either Gerald or Glenda ๐Ÿ™

      true.

but it is self interest versus party interest versus national interest

if anyone places self interest ahead of national interest, then he or she doen't not deserved to be in the parliament.
Where's the team spirit? Thought is the team work. Ya, hope is either Gerald or Glenda too...
I agree on tankee's statement as above. :salute:

but it means 2 things :
            a) possibly half of the current 87 elected MPs are not deserving ? kekekekekeke, personal view nia hor.
            b) I feel for Eric Tan seriously, he has put a lot of dedication with WP.

Even though I agree that Gerald is a much better voice in parliament ( due to his youth, commitment, and eloquence in public speaking ), maybe the CEC at WP should have discussed this in detail longer before making this decision.

But if ET does leave, all the best to him. He has tried to serve the people for the past 16 years wherever he can.

Note, he is not the only one who resign after not being selected - GY, LHH also quitted. And now ZIR is also showing to the public that not all the PAP members agree with the current tactics of the govt.

            http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporescene/pap-decide-ll-contest-next-ge-zainul-abidin-111049437.html
Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed has left it to the People's Action Party (PAP) to decide if he will contest in the next General Election (GE).

But it will be unlikely given his age, said the 63-year-old on Thursday, who was part of the PAP Aljunied GRC team that was defeated by the Workers' Party.

Speaking at a media conference, he said he will do what he can, for as long as he is able. For now, he will continue as adviser to the Aljunied grassroots organisations.

The GE result does not change his resolve in serving the nation, he was quoted by Channel NewsAsia as saying.

However, he revealed that he will not accept the post of Speaker of Parliament even if the Prime Minister offered it to him.

While sad that the team lost Aljunied GRC, Mr Zainul said he is energised by the love and concern shown by his family, friends and Aljunied residents who did not vote for the PAP team.

He said, many residents voted based on issues beyond Aljunied GRC.

He also noted that many Malay-Muslim Singaporeans were hurt by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's comments about Malay-Muslim integration in Singapore, and still remain so.

Earlier this week, Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua, both part of the losing Aljunied GRC team, announced that they were leaving politics.
some people are not pleased with a party because they like to put partyโ€™s interest above everything else. you know i know which party.

Thought I read somewhere that it will be Gerald Giam.

I understand the viewpoint on his contributions for the last 16 years and also are we giving priority to young and forsaking the old.

Personally, I feel that he resign because of face issue. I recalled watching on the news that he said that most likely he will be the one taking up the NCMP position. This was one of the interviews shortly after GE. Usually candidates would say party's decision but at that point, he sounded very confident. So it's a face issue for him now.

I think choosing a younger person in this case is a strategic decision. How many more election can Eric stand in? Maybe 1 more before he decides to retire? On the other hand, Gerald has a couple more given his age. It's also good to expose him for the purpose of the party's succession planning. Potentially he will become the next in line after people like LTK and Sylvia retire? At least now they have young ones like pritam, yaw shin leong, gerald, glenda. I admire CST but looking at his party, it's a very good learning model of how succession planning went wrong and affect the party's survival. I hope WP will not be like that.

I don't recall hearing both of them speak or it didn't register as I was more interested in the hot ones. But I also heard comments that Gerald Giam is not bad so age aside, maybe from a competency point of view, Gerald is better???? I can't tell.

But I still feel that WP made the right choice. It's unfortunate that Eric feels strong about it and resign. But I still feel that it's more of a face issue.

                    Exactly..

somemore based on the comments he made when the results are announced, seems that he is not the right person..

๐Ÿ˜‰ Seems like everybody like younger people and would take any opportunity to short-change older people. It is not just PAP.....this is just the society is like.....better keep more money and be rich before you get old.
Not true lah..

CSM is very popular and well liked also mah.. If between Gerald and CSM, I'll vote for CSM anytime.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                        Hi MMM,

my 2 favourite people who I want to see in our parliament to covey the people's voices.
They know the grounds, the sentiments, the real situation and they have the eloquence and knowledge / information to debate if necessary, even better than CST and LTK.

pls see and judge Gerald, he is a great choice.
