        Hi,

My son is currently in Columbus preschool at upper east coast not satisfied with the school so looking for some good schools around.
I went to MMI @east coast and School house by the bay.
MMI is in an old house with comparatively small classes Principal is good but teachers are less experienced can say very young girls.
I was shocked to see that a new girl was sleeping on a chair and table in porch area principal explained me she is new so need time to settle is this correct way to get a child used to the school?
School house by the bay impressed me a lot. English language teachers are all native english speakers.Same for mandrian class. All classes have one lead and one assistant teachers. There way of teaching is also very unique 1 day they teach english for whole day and other day mandrian according to principal children grasp better this way. Also liked the canteen there its very stylish. Overall liked the centre.

Yes... my girl is there right now... and her Chinese has definitely benefitted from Schoolhouse's alternate days programme. I love how she brings home things she made in school almost on a daily basis - they are a strong proponent of learning through play. While there are criticisms about how Schoolhouse may not train kids academically as well as PCF and some other kindies, I feel it is much more important to instill in children a love for learning at this very early age.

            Hi chief,

I agree with u and my personal experience is that no matter which ever centre u send ur child u have to more or less prepare him personally for Primary school.
I am planning to check out Zoo phonics and kinderland near parkway parade just to satisfy me that my choice of School house is better 😄

              Joy:

I know holygrace kindergarten is a good chinese base kindergarten, but I am not really sure about their eng standard.

              cheers
My boys are at Holy Grace. It is really good Chinese immersion programme and they can both speak Mandarin fluently now tho we are from English speaking homes. English is not a prob cos they read lots of English book and their primary lang of communication is still English.

                    Hello!

I’m a new parent. Baby is now 2-months old. My friend told me that he had to register his child for Pre-school as soon as he was born!!! So am feeling left behind… Anyway, am looking for a pre-school around Katong. I live along Ceylon Road near the Laksa shops along EastCoast road and I am thinking about visiting MMI in Katong Shopping Centre. I have the same concern as Quixation. A school within an old and worn-out shopping centre doesn’t look very attractive. But I will still visit them. Has anyone visited the Shaw House? Or any other good suggestions within the area?

My wife and I plan to visit a few pre-schools in the next few weeks just to have a look. Is there anything that we should look out for? What’s the best time to go? Apart from the facilities etc., what do we need to consider in our assessment. I am thinking of the following:

                      1. Curriculum - Academic rigor coupled with play/arts, etc.
                      2. Teachers - Do we need to check on the certs of their teachers? Some pre-school websites list down the names of their teachers, complete with educational qualifications, etc.
                      3. Distance from home
                      4. Physical facilities - cleanliness/pleasantness of the place, ample room for play, enough educational toys, etc.
                      5. Chatting up parents of those who send their kids to the pre-school

                      anything else??? Thanks!
