Q&A - P5 English
-
Hi Champion,
Term 1 Grammar list mentioned the connector - because. So I taught her using the Synthesis assessment...but she just couldn't grasp the idea. So I decided not to continue and let the teacher do it. I was wondering why teach 'because' as it's not easy.
Connectors are taught to teach kids to link 2 sentences together. There are many titles of 'Synthesis' assessment books from diff publishers...can go bonkers. But I wouldn't advise getting Longman Synthesis as it doesn't include many connectors. You can check out 'Conquer' or Casco.
After CA1, Popular was very crowded...I know because I was there

Hi Mummies of P5 children,
My son has been given EL worksheets for editing, punctuation and synthesis as practice. Some of the connectors given are not found in his usual P5 asssessment books. Do you face these problems ? Son asks for me help…I can do that, but kind of worried if he faces this prob in SA1. -
Hi! Perhaps you could post your doubts and we try to help?

May I just stress that connectors aren't simply to link two sentences (words, phrases, clauses) together: They are to express a relationship between the two components.Hi Champion,

'Because' is very easy to teach: It is used to show the reason for the action in the main clause eg:
I drank a glass of water because I was thirsty.

Any advise on how to help kids improve in their synthesis and transformation?
Anyone to help on the following questions?
Q1. Darly lost his brother's storey book. It was careless of him.
Darly was careless to lose his brother's story book.
Q2. Timothy said, \"I did not break these chairs.\"
Timothy denied breaking those chairs.
Q3. \"Please do not report this to the police,\" pleaded the robber.
The robber pleaded with us not to report the robbery to the police.
Can the above answers be accepted, if not why? -
p6 student here…if wrong then im sorry…just trying to help.
for Q3 the question didnt mention the robber pleaded us. didnt mention pleaded who so should not write in the answer. answer: The robber pleaded not to report the robbery to the police. -
Superbugs:
This sounds perfectly correct to me. It is understood in the direct speech that somebody (somebodies) is being addressed.
Q3. \"Please do not report this to the police,\" pleaded the robber.
The robber pleaded with us not to report the robbery to the police.
It is quite permissible in S&T to insert understood subjects.
Another example:
\"Study hard for the PSLE,\" said Teacher Ridcully.
Teacher Ridcully suggested to his class that they study hard for the PSLE. -
