Err...interesting, since you said you have been EM for 1+ yr, you must have known your PA staff. He/she usually will be present during monthly meeting or events/activities.

I know there is a rep from the Community Centre attending the monthly meeting. This is the PA staff that you are mentioning?

Yes, but not from CC, he/she is from PA. He is suppose to tbe there to update all on upcoming constituency or national level events and to take action items if there's any for PA.
Interestingly... just found out that some RCs don't have Town Council Rep attending their monthly meeting... the people on top never do their work?

Then again... your chairman is also a volunteer... so don't bet all your eggs on him/her... :)
Our RC is attended by police rep from NPC, TC rep as well as PA rep on monthly basis. This is important for direct info from the relevant dept on things happening in our area and also for members to feedback directly.

Was @ one of the NACLI training, and we were just sharing ideas among one another from different districts.
Was surprised that these so-called standard procedures, which we all assumed, were not adhered to.
So whose fault?

[you will get a letter or a note during your rc meeting with a website and password for you to log in an register. and after you register you will get a letter for you to bring to the school. it may take a few weeks for the letter to arrive.
Hi, 'learningtobekiasu'
Thanks for ur reply!
Actually I got inform from Chairman, ask me directly go login PA <Grassrootsconnect>website, can see it & do register, but inside nothing related P1 register.
the website you mentioned is 'GrassrootsConnect'?
Thanks
you will only see the option if you are eligible. i don't think the 2011 one is open for regs yet. but you should check with PA.
Once the registration for GRLs is out for registration, can any member help to alert us through this forum? Most newbies like us who have just completed one yr service may missed out on this if our RC/PA rep are not so proactive in assisting us.. :thankyou:

then parents need to search their own heart, find out how genuinely noble they are in offering rc work.

to me, i think there are 2 groups of parents. One type are those who genuinely contribute their precious time selflessly to do volunteer RC work, for the benefit of the RC zone they stay in. These are the selfless lot, and i truly salute them. They are rare ones, but they do exist.

the 2nd group are those who want some benefit out of it. If you read past pages in this case, there were cases reported who once their kid got in ideal school, they stop rc work. Means once they achieve their objective, that's it. Not interested anymore. If supposing one day this benefit of choosing ideal school is taken out and removed totally as a benefit, i v much doubt they want to volunteer.
I agree with you. I was with the grassroots even before I got married. Did not even know about this benefit until I had kids. During these years, saw many volunteers who joined because of phase 2B. The best part, the EM positions are not in RC but in CCMC or CCC. They don't even come for meetings once their kids got into the school.

Of course having the benefit help to get more volunteer for the short term and hopefully in the longer term, a few will continue to serve the community.

Hi,

I would like to solicit some feedback on your respective RC/NC’s criteria in confirming Observers as Executive Members. The following criteria was set some time ago by our RC and it seems pretty stringent to me and I am currently reviewing it for my RC and to formalise it. My idea is to issue a checklist to observer so he/she has full control and knows when he/she is due for confirmation. I believe it will also make the whole process more transparent. Appreciates your frank feedback if you are aware of your RC/NC’s practices. Tks.

=========================================
The Criteria for the confirmation of Observer as Executive Member:

(a). Attended 75 % of the Meeting
(b). Organised 3 to 6 Floor Parties
©. Organised 1 to 3 Block Parties or 1 Divisional Event
(d). Positive contributions to the community and RC

Once the above criteria are met, Observer may be confirmed as Executive Member.

Precisely, I find it too stringent. I was confirmed on (a) & (d) too in 2005 but went on to organise many events and contributed in the Exco. In fact, based on our experiences, we can easily see if someone is committed to serve or simple come in for some benfits and then disappear. So what if the person fulfilled all the above requirements? It still doesn't mean that he/she is committed to serve in the long run. I kind of suspect the criteria was drafted by a single person, not mandated by PA, without consultation with the committee and hence I am pursuing to refine it. Tks.

Hmmm.... it does seems very stringent... esp below 2...

(b). Organised 3 to 6 Floor Parties
(c). Organised 1 to 3 Block Parties or 1 Divisional Event

If Observer has to do above... I think his confirmation will take at least 1 year.
Then the existing EMs just shake legs ah?

We don't have strict guidelines on my RC side... then again it also shows there's no transparencies.

While it is heartening that the top brass is changing their mindset and setting things in the right direction, it is sad that the people running the grassroots are still oblivious to these changes.

:?
