Hi Callie, wow ... that's the first time I heard of an enrichment centre allowing parents to be in the class. I think it's really nice that they have the 10 mins sharing session with parents too. I cannot find Concept Math Education Centre website ... could you share their contacts with me? Thanks.

Was trying to PM you...but not sure why cannot leh... pls pm me so I can give you the contacts? Thanks

Hi Callie, just PM you. Seems like Kiasuparents.com made some changes these few days ... the PM button does not seem to work ... I had to write a new message and typed in your id ... hopefully you can get it. Thanks in advance for the info!

My P3 child is weak in problem sums solving and I am looking out for Maths enrichment class that focus on this aspect. I understand MPM & Scharff are good in this area. Any views that parents like to share?

My son is in Scraff for second term now. He did enjoy the lesson however I personally think that they expose the child to higher level mathematics too early. He is P3 but was taught on P4 maths. He does have a bit of problem understanding the method when he re-do the qs at home though.... I'm now in dilema.. not sure to continue or to pull him out... :frustrated:

Actually I heard many enrichment centres are doing similar methods to so-called \"enhance\" the general standard... By giving P2 questions to the P1s or P3 questions to the P2s... I really do not know whether it is a good idea. I have no qualms with teaching ahead of the school by a term or two, but by a year??? Sometimes it will kill the interests in the subject ....

              hi ,

I think it depends on the kid. Some kids are very good in certain areas (academic or non-academic). If they have a strong interest in a particular subject (or sports or music or …), I think we should not bother so much about what “level” as long as they are progressing well and not affecting other areas. Take Maths for example, “drilling” works for certain kids but if the kids are already very strong in a topic, repetitive practice or doing many worksheets/other schools’ exams might do more harm than good for these kids.

For your son’s case, I would suggest that you talk to his Scraff’s teacher about your concerns and see if something can be done (you should give them a chance since your son is enjoying the lessons there). I am curious though, I suppose P4 maths cover different topics than P3 so if Scraff teaches them P4 topics, do they still have time to teach the P3 topics?

                Hi,

I live near Jurong Point and my daughter is in P1 (west groove primary). Any body can advise a good Maths enrichment center near Jurong west area.

                :thankyou:

                  Hi coast,

actually scarff don't teach them by topic. I chose scarff over it's iq maths method because I believe I'm covering him well for school topics at home. I did hav a talk with the instructor last week. Still reluctant to pull him out because I know it will benefit him in long run and not now.... School mtp Is just around the corner, let see what the FT says about him before I make any decision.

Thanks ya for your valuable input. Appreciated! :snuggles:

                    Hi KS_me,

Sorry but may I know what \"mtp\" and \"FT\" stand for?

I agree with you on \"benefit him in long run\" ... provided he keeps enjoying his lessons 🙂

Another point for you to consider, check with Scraff whether there is another class suitable for his current proficiency ... in this case, you would have tried another option before deciding whether to pull him out.

Thanks for sharing about Scraff too ... it's interesting they have classes teaching iq maths. Do they have classes teaching school topics as well?

                      Hi,

You may consider Little Professor at Blk 504...my dd there since Jan this year...class size small 2-3, so better concentration. 😄

My daughter is going to P1 next year. She is now in MPM and planning to withdraw her after this term because felt that the teacher is not good. Can anyone advise Kumon and Andrew Er which is better choice? Understand that Kumon is focus more on repeating in doing the same thing and Andrew Er will be more on Problem solving. Thanks.
