      CJS:
School uniforms should be redesign with the capability of filling with ice in between two layers to keep supercool. After the ice melted, pour it out for recycling.

Won't that add to the weight? water not weight-free leh. And the condensation effect...end up our kids will all have the wet look.

DS1's school redesigned their uniform...it's all the dri-weave type material (nonid iron - I lurve it!) and looks cooling; plus they use it for pe and normal lessons.

My 2 cents. On top of roof/shaded areas (like walkways), plant more grass/shrubs. It can be part of program for the kids to tend to their patch of grass/shrub on rooftops (then again, not sure if this = child labour; if so, can always get PV to do it).

Pls don't :spank: me for typing this...

I see the heat in the school as a result of the bigger problem of how we are treating the environment. This is an example of how adults' actions have affected the kids.

I think we should instead push for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources to make greater inroads on educating us how to help the environment, intensify on the recycling effort at all levels.

The heat in the school is \"small fire\", to fight it, we must ensure it does not add fuel to the big fire and resulting in more heat.

Although my idea of the paper fan is tongue in cheek, it is something that can be done very easily by every child. There's no need to subsidize those with financial problem. It will show the child that they can change a situation with a little effort.

I don't like air-con, it's not good for the health. I've been trying to convince my hubby to use it less during bedtime. I was so happy when my kids' kinddy does not use air-con. I know I'm a bit extreme here. I prefer fan.

Anyway my take is to go with simple solution. I like the ideas to plant trees, drinking more water. I just feel that more effort can be put elsewhere to improve the situation on a national level

......7. Get sponsorship from drinks like Milo to make rounds to schools to give cold Milo or ice-cream vendors to provide mini ice-cream relief....mini \"sng pao\" is good........

and when some kids start coughing, the parents may blame the school or even the Minister of Education.

Tankee, when we were young, we also ate sng pao, drank cold milo and ate heaps of ice-cream but never fell sick(of course no air-con then too)...... so this problem is more than the school or MOE....it's basically the state of not-so-strong health the kids are these days.

Ah I think we should direct to MOH instead to go to the root of the problem!!

            SAHM_TAN, don't worry, I :hugs: you... šŸ˜„

I agree it is an environmental issue indeed.
However, I learn to see that we cannot solve world issues, so we start with baby steps solving home issues first, hopefully along the way contribute to solving world issues.

let our kids wear t-shirt and PE shorts to school during this hot season

off with those pinafores and long pants

DS's school practise this. They allow PE attire during hot season.

we should petition to our kids' schools cos this idea is literally simple and effective

You people very hard to please. Now ask for ideas, you rant. Don't ask for ideas, you complain never listen to the people's views. :slapshead: :siam:
                U said it!

                verykiasu2010:

very simple, we pay them million upon million of dollars. they should come up with the proposal / ideas and discuss; if it is workable, we praise them. if not, take our feedback. if we were to come up with the idea, then we don't need them. 5 have retired and 2 have been voted out, amongst others. I paid my tax every year

look at it from another view point : the electorate has outsourced the problem solving to them
Why cant we take it as a compliment that maybe some of us may have an ingenious idea?

The common man is the one one with uncommon ideas

Look at Wiki and Microsoft Encrata. Who would have tot that wikipedia would be such a smashing success ?

The strength in todays world is the power to get out our collective creativity, wisdom and knowledge together to work better for us.

MOE of course should come up with the proposal. But if they are inviting us to join in to contribute ideas, then i welcome it and do not see it as a sign of incompetence on their part.

Wow, My Gal is a SURE Supporter of this!

In Fact, She's been Asking Me,
\"Which Sec Sch has Air-con Classroom? I Want to Go there!\"

She Came back and told me she has headache from 8am to 12noon this morning ....
                  And What Cures her Headache?
She Actually Doze off, and \"NOD\" Vigorously to Everything her T Says while in Class ....
And after the Vigorous Exercise .... Wake-up Headache-Free!

my previous sec sch has air-con in every classrooms except for the sci labs & the kitchen where they learn home econs (cooking). but that was before it moved.

so after every PE lesson, it was damn shiok to return back to the air-con classrooms. :imcool: :boogie:

now the school is in a new premise, not sure if its air-con installed in every classroom anymore

Can pm me which sec sch U attend?
                  :please: :please:

cold milo is ok mah. seen those sports adverts, milo is always their main sponsor. a healthy drink. during our sch sports day, cold milo is always welcome.

as for ice cream, also welcome cos its milk. the sch can always provide full cream ice cream like vanilla iso of those flavoured ones.

                    :dancing:
