so fast get marks back ? Compare with whole level, it could be a tough paper.
Compare with whole level also below average. Highest marks for level is 100, and highest for his class is 99.5. ;((
Yes, exam was last mth, so even report book already back sometime ago.
You all should count your blessings, lah. Me still scratching head and hoping for miracle.
Your DS school Maths standard quite high - I know becos I usually pull out their CA / SA Maths paper for my DS to practise. They usually push the kids hard before PSLE and hope they all make it to the COP for affiliation. See how you can help him this Jun hols - revision class? work thru' certain Maths topics he is weak in?
Apparently this math paper not very difficult leh. My elder boy in p6 had 80+ for SA1. At least not so scary. -
phankao, yours must be super duper high standard school. Fast track than most schools, and high marks too

Cannot compare kids like that. Some are stronger in certain subjects. More important is to know where are his weak areas and work from there. Good to sit with him to go thru' together and come up with game plan. At least he will feel \"ownership\" of area he wants to improve.

ppnqq,
Check the Maths paper to list out the weak area. You may want to see if you are capable to address these yourself or source for an intensive course / tutor to work at this. There is still time before PSLE! -

Already said way below even level average... so how difficult can that paper be? And the bulk of the questions that he got wrong, he's done that type of questions and revised quite a number of times.... *sigh*. -

And older boy was in a much worser class than this boy.

Already went thru with him....generally all he cannot \"see the light\" even though done many times before (similar type of questions). Some are even p5 standard questions. :slapshead: -

Aiyo, Phankao, like that compare no end state - there is always another higher mountain! Why all the kids not scoring 99.5 since they are all having same teacher, same paper, same class? Same teacher, same paper, same class, kids also score a range of different marks. Each kid has his own \"capability\"/\"ability\"/\"standard\". (maybe 2 kids may have similar standard, but still they are different and should not compare!)

I never like to compare 1 kid with another. I think it is fairer to measure a kid based on his \"capability\"/\"ability\"/\"standard\". Based on past score, your kid's past standard and your understanding of your kid (and you may also want to get teacher's feedback as well), go thru' his weaknesses and work with him on what he (and you) think is achievable. As long as he tries and perform his best, he will be proud of his work and you should celebrate his effort.
I've seen smart kids \"turn-off\" becos parents compare them with siblings, frens, etc. They \"retaliate\" with the mentality that \"fine, I'm not as good / smart as xxx\" and go on to prove it so by not putting in more effort to reach their best. This is a very common thing happening esp. when they are reaching / in their teens whereby the rebellious nature come into play and then they change their attitude.
Sorry if this sounds a little too serious, but do tread on this topic of comparison carefully as it does hurt the confidence of a kid. Hope you find a way to work with your son soon and all the best! -
Hi,
Next Thursday will be the last day of term 2. Friday will be the parent-teacher meeting session and tentatively heard from dd that P6 is required to come back in the 1st week after term 2. -
Pen88n:
Not really comparing kids. But using their grades all throughout primary school and esp in p5/p6 to gauge what how their eventual PSLE score will turn out. I have 2 previous examples, mah.... I think the gauge based on their relative grades in p5/p6 can be quite indicative. It is \"solid\" evidence to my no.3 as to how much more work he has to put in, that's all.phankao:
