If I didn't remember wrongly, Jan & Elly is offering enrichment for Comprehension. I just took my son out of English-Made-Possible. Wonder how this comprehension course is all about.

Son's SA1 OE passage was taken from Readers Digest. This June, I'm going to get him to read them, highlight the words he doesn't understand and check them out. For comprehension cloze, I'll be starting him on P6 PSLE Comprehension assessment which I just bought (Learners). A friend of mine whose son is in P6 this year told me English will get very tough...I'm feeling it already, not just for Eng but for all the subjects. 😒 :frustrated:

interestingly, DS form teacher also recommended reading Reader's Digest when I was sharing with him on son's poor English comprehension skills. hmm.... maybe he was giving hints that passages are taken from there...

i am not sure about this TAS workshop but apparently, this centre is pretty popular with some KSPs here for their creative writing.

Yup...the passage from Eng SA1 was extracted from Readers Digest. This was indicated at the bottom of the exam paper.

DD had attended their creative writing workshop last year and they were quite generous and award the children who did well in the writing with a story book. I remembered there were 3 children got the book after the end of the workshop.

so how is their workshop ? are their techniques effective ? what was your DD's feedback ?

the techniques that I've seen thus far involves memorizing set phrases for specific situations.
They have categorized the situations according to various human emotions, scenic descriptions.
The technique is effective and if the exam essay topic is on a subject matter that was already covered, then it's scoring time....

on the topic of exam essay topics, does anyone know where one can get information on this ? the Top School English SA1/SA2 papers do not come with essay questions, so there no way to analyse the essay categories in the various schools.

                    Hello,

TGIF :imcool: :dancing: :boogie: but I am on medical leave today  . Guess due to the super  weather, have been hit by very bad migraine since yesterday nite :slapshead: .

DD1 got her EL result for paper 2 and \"as expected\" - lost marks in the Comprehension portion 😒 . She said EL T \"disappointed\" with e class performance as only 2 gets Band 1, majority band 2 & 5 in band 3. DD1 felt the hit and was very :gloomy: yesterday. Told her wait till I see the paper next week only during the PTM, then I will be able to gauge the standard & help her from there πŸ†’ .

Guess I have to work with DD1 on the Compre part this June holiday lioa. Anyone has recommendation for Comprehension assessment books?

                    :thankyou: In Advance πŸ˜„
                    Hi,
Sounds like the paper is tough.....I thought at P3, typically you will have about 5-10 in Band 1. Your DD quite ζ‡‚δΊ‹οΌŒsince she knows how to feel 'sad' about the result, means she has the right attitude. That is half the battle won πŸ™‚ Take care.

                      Hi Champion...

I got bad migraine when I saw her math paper..... My dd got 94 for prctice paper and 70 for SA1... My Hubby simply aksed me is that marks is for MY math ability  I was chanting and preeching her all the time..... I think the way I teach/presenting is not good....

Anyway I am using \"Comprehension strategies by learners\" not bad it has 3 types of questions 1st learning 2nd to practice 3rd trying it out. And some notes on how to do. I finished conquer....with her
                      Hi Plum-Cake,
Migraine is a very terrible thing and I hate it esp when it hit me very badly :frustrated:  😒 ..Now better after visiting to the GP and he prescribe the pain killer for me :boogie: :dancing:

No fret - I believe you have already done your best with your P2 girl :celebrate: :snuggles: Maybe due to the paper is set a higher standard?

OK, I was surfing the Learners Publishing webpage and :yikes: they have many books on Comprehension and one of them is the one you mentioned\"Comprehension strategies by learners\" πŸ˜„

I have short-list the following few and will go Popular take a look this coming weekend πŸ†’ http://i56.tinypic.com/racmps.jpg\"> http://i54.tinypic.com/14den4m.gif\"> http://i55.tinypic.com/xm8thf.gif\"> http://i55.tinypic.com/359g0ib.jpg\">

Also, looking into this one (although personally I don't really like Casco Publication) but has to make a comparison and see how it is πŸ˜‰ http://i55.tinypic.com/10fdu10.jpg\">

Really appreciates many parents who always come forwards to share and encourage each other :lovesite: :grphug:

                        Hello,
                        Thanks for the encouragement :hugs:

Can only see the paper next Friday during the PTM but the EL papers are not allowed to return to the children - even the CA1 paper is still being kept by the EL Teacher! Guess I have to \"secretly\" take a few snap using my hp of those mistakes made by DD1 and then go home and study her mistakes

Have short-list a few Comprehension Assessment Books and will do a comparison among them before deciding which one to purchase πŸ˜‰ ...
