Maths paper 2 is always the killer. Paper 1 is no better because w/o the usage of a calculator, all the calculations go haywire!

Do you think the papers of much higher standards?

Yes, personally I feel that Rulang's math papers are very high-standard. When my DS was in P2 last year, he could score 80+ on revision papers and other school papers. But when it came to SA1 and SA2, he scored 70+ and i mentioned this to his FT. The FT admitted that Rulang's math paper is very high-standard, and i told him, its not fair at all to my child. So for P3, I've learned to lower my expectations. For this SA1, I gave him Nanhua Pr school SA1 (2009) to try. He scored 82/100. I'm waiting to see how much he score for this SA1.....

Please share if your kids get demoralized after fairing below expectation when it comes to exams, in particular due to the super challenging papers.

I agree that Rulang's Maths papers are of higher standard. Plus i realized some of the past years' papers even for CA1 had topics that my DDs normal neighbourhood school had yet to cover. :shock: So those kinds of questions, we did them together. It just made her curious how come other schools have learnt them and hers had not. It didn't make her demoralized at all. If i recall correctly, DD2 managed an 85 for the Rulang paper she did.

Surprisingly, DD2 said, \"It's ok mommy, i'm not frustrated that i got some of the ones i know wrong... cos this only means i can and i WILL learn from my mistakes.

The thing is when DD did her CA1, there are also questions in there which have not been covered. So tell your DD2 it is not that her school is 'slower' in covering the topics.

Good for her! :boogie: I can't recall what was Dd's score though coz like you there were some questions we did together since she has not covered yet. Good to know that she is not demoralized.

Before she entered P1, I kept hearing how in P1 every subject is 90+++. So now I need to expect much less for Maths..

How much exposure the preschool and the home environment had provided before P1 is also something else to look at. Some parents anticipate that gg into a good school would require that their children should be in top form so they enrol their K2s and some since K1s into many many enrichment pgrms hence indirectly also pushing the level up bah.. This is why the formative assessments for P1s works well cause children are assessed as all rounders instead of just only the academic round.

Mine is at 3H. Cried after SA1 Maths paper as he think he did not answer correctly for 3 problem sum. Maths is his strongest subject.
In the end, scored 85 for the paper. The highest mark I heard is 99......
So I have to admit, it is not that school set too high standard paper, my son's std is just not there yet....
