Some 80 residents have petitioned a list of demands including changing ALL the water tanks and asking the mtgment of the Town council to step down...wonder what singapore is coming to: MPs 'not doing their jobs well' - call to step down; town council didn't inform residents fast enough that a dead body was found in the water tank - call to step down. What next? Like this, no one will dare to be in the public service becos there seems to be no tolerance for mistakes. They have to tread carefully on eggs cos if one egg is broken, OUT they go! No explanation. No mercy. No grace.

I fully agree with VB's recent comment that it's not easy to be a MP these days. People are no longer subservient and are less tolerant. Just my humble observation.
Think one of the things that got them really mad was that the TC did not tell them not to use the water. There were some water left in the pipes and some pple still used it till 5pm.

well, the official speak is that we're hiring quality talent and have to pay that quality price (aka 15K per month). True that pp are less tolerant - but then my personal observation is that those who are subservient and more tolerant tend to get 'eaten up'. When I quietly complain about leaking roof, town council just put me at the back of the queue....when plaster started falling and I cc-ed my mp in emails (not that he replied), suddenly, the town council guy got time to come to my place and organised the work quickly.

I thought the S$15k is the monthly allowance on top of their salary ?
Residents fear long-time contamination in Woodlands water tanks

Some six days after a corpse was discovered in a rooftop water tank in Woodlands, about 150 residents gathered in a dialogue session with the town council management to address concerns.

Present at the dialogue session were also representatives from the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and representatives from the Residents’ Committee.

Participating residents made some shocking revelations, saying that they have seen workers come out from the rooftop water tank room with bathing towels. The room has also turned into a hotspot for secret rendezvous with workers seen bringing women into the room.

Residents suspect that workers bathed frequently in the water tanks, and in extreme cases, washed there after having sex with their female companions!

If so, then residents in the block may have been drinking contaminated water for a long time without their knowledge!

Source: Lianhe Wanbao, 22 May 2011.
what else can we expect from the water??

This roof access problem may be wider than most of us think. I just heard from someone that he/she has seen a roof access door left open. Out of curiosity, she climbed to the top of the roof, took a look and then came down.
