I agree that 1 month is reasonable but if she gives problem at the last leg of work stint, then you are better off without giving any notice. Protect your family first before anything else.

I think it depends on your reason for not renewing. If you have just decided that you no longer need or want a maid and she has generally been a good worker then it is only fair to give her a few months to find a new employer if she wants to stay in Singapore. If you send her back home she will have to start all over again.

If you are willing to pay you can always send her back to stay with the agent during that time if you would prefer not to have her in the house.

Hi may I know why you are not renewing? If she is an ok maid, I am actually looking for one. Prefer by recommendation than get an unknown quality from agency. My Indo maid of 7 years wants to go home to get married. So I am looking for one to start in July.

Do let me know - no babies/toddlers, no elderly. Just general cleaning and cooking and laundry. Do email me at [email protected] if you know of any transfer maid.

Sorry to hijack the thread! :siam:

my maid’s contract is due end of the year. must go and find out which month, as she’s a transfer maid. basically, she’s good - housework, cooking, looking after my kids. what i can’t stand about her is she’s very vain. she likes to wear sleeveless, or even tube during her off days (as i don’t allow her to wear it at home). also she has handphone and laptop (and has facebook account - that’s where i saw her vain photos). tho i told her she can only use computer after she finished all her work. but as she’s quite efficient and finishes her work early, she will go and use her computer. that’s where i m not happy about. also, i’m not really convince that she’s ‘totally honest’, as we’ve lost some things along the way. however, i also can’t say that she stole them as we do not have prove. anyway, those things are not real valuable or expensive so we just close one eye.

not sure if i should transfer as i really can’t guarantee that she’s really good. what do you all think?

Any increment is down to negotiation between you & the maid. There is no fixed rule.

If you still have a lot of time try the budget airlines but be careful as some of them (Tiger for example) fly into Clark not the main Manila airport; some maids prefer it as they can avoid central Manila but it depends on there they live.

My helper has gone home a few times (airfare and salary paid for) during her two year contract.

Does anyone know if the leave she has already taken can be regarded as in-lieu payment for the end-of-contract home leave? In our contract, it says 15 days paid leave if we wish to recontract.

Her contract expires at a time inconvenient for us to give her 15 days leave.

                    Thanks.

It's another grey area as strictly speaking they aren't entitled to leave until the 2 years is up. I would suggest that you talk to her and see how she feels; has she confirmed that she wants to renew?

If she wants to go back maybe you can negotiate to go at a different time. One of our previous maids requested to delay for nearly 5 months so that she could go back at Christmas as her daughter's birthday was on Boxing Day.

Did you tell her when she went back previously that it was part of her end of contract home leave? If not, then she may not be happy if you tell her now, although you've been really generous to her by letting her go back several times at your expense. Maybe if you explain to her that her several trips back were over and above her entitlement, and the two of you work out something for the end of contract leave?
