what is the minimum psle score to enter Secondary school:-

- express stream ?
- normal stream ?

what happens if a child can't enter normal stream ? where will MOE post the child to, after psle ?

Express : 188

Normal (Academic) : below 188

Normal (Technical) : below 156 ?

ITE : below 100??

I think below 100 is still normal tech? Bc I rmbr a friend's dd getting like 98 and it was normal tech.

And I just did a quick netsearch. And yes, some sec schools take in for Normal Tech scores like 86.
thanks

i looked at some school data from the moe. sis website, but the info quite sketchy

what’s the difference btw Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) in curriculum taught, besides diff in psle score ?

if a child in Normal (Academic), any chance for him to go back Express ?

definitely yes. seen it. that is also the reason / wisdom behind some cases who are borderline express stream, they opted for normal stream in a good secondary school, do well in sec one and get transferred to sec two express - in the preferred sec school !

also, if failed the express badly could also be downgraded to normal acad

Normal Acad (NA) Kids Take 5 yrs, Express 4 yrs to O Level.
NA got to take N Level Exam in year 4. After N Level, Can either Cont with O Level in Year 5 (If Result OK), or go Higher Nitec /Nitec Course (ITE) - own Choice.
😉 😉

Yes, If Results OK, Can transfer back to Express. And If Result in Express Lousy, Can Drop into NA Class, too ....

My Boy Told me this had happen in his sch for his Batch ....

There is a chance for him to go back to Express if he does very well in his sch exams and his teachers highly recommend him for the express stream.
Normal (A) students have the chance to go express if they do v well. N(T) syllabus is very much easier than N(A).

I have hired a few Normal (Acad) students before for holiday jobs. The ones that went on to do O-levels in Sec 5. They were quite good. They also went to JC/Poly and on to our Local Universities eventually and have all graduated and are working already. So even Normal stream is workable for some, although a slightly longer route.

In Fact Some Kids R more Suited to take NA ....
the Pace is Less Stress-ful, and they Get to Digest what's taught better (If too Much Stuff is Being Shaft to them in Hurried Pace, Will Just Glide over their Head ....)

An Extra Learning Year in Sch to Strengthen their Knowledge Will Not Set them Back that much ....
Unless they R in a Hurry to Start Earning the Dough to Keep the Rice on the Family's Dining Table ....
:celebrate: :celebrate:

my nephew failed his ‘N’ level…my brother wasn’t happy that the education system doesn’t allow his son to repeat his ‘N’ level…Just wonder is it reasonable for him to have this request…

Anyone has the breakdown of places available thru DSA at various schools ?

And how many of these are reserved for GEP students ?

Heard that RI has 200 places, with around one quarter reserved for GEP.
NUSH has around 150 with no GEP reserve places.

What about other schools ?

School / Intake per year / DSA allocation
RI / 450 / 50%
HCI / 450 / 50%
NYGH / 450 / 50%?
RGS / 450 / 50% ?
NJC / 200 / ??
NUSH / 200 / 160 ?

For RI : (about 180 out of 450 are GEPpers, some via DSA, some via S1)
