Post GE 2011 Discussion

I noticed this round those who who did well in the PAP are those that 'stayed low'
(correct me if I'm wrong). Anything that is spoken subjects them to 'unforseen' backlash. It is so ironic. Used to be the other way round. Only this time, it isn't the use of legal action, but      -
after Lim Wee Kiat's joke, wonder how much dignity will Gerard Ee propose for our dignitaries :?

I guess the salary cut will be 10% ONLY :skeptical:

Is this the last term for President Nathan? Is there a max time a person can be President?Ex PAP man Tan Cheng Bock is gearing to run for President in August.
He is not currently being endorsed as d garmen’s preferred candidate.
President Nathan was returned unopposed in d last 2 Presidential elections.
TCB was one of d more vocal and decent PAP MPs who spoke his mind in parliament till he stepped down in 2006.
Wat a difference one GE makes.
D political landscape is getting more interesting. -
Regardless, for the sake of whoever becomes the next President, I truly hope that it will be done through a proper electoral process that allows the people to exercise our choice of who we want to be our President. Having a pre-qualification process with very stringent criteria set up by some small committee will only serve whoever decides on what the criteria should be.
Walkover elections can earn no respect for the winner. They are unfair for both the winner and the electorate. -

Whereas d PEC was set up to ostensibly screen potential Presidential candidates
so dat not any Tom, Dick n Harry can get elected to d highest political office in d land,
dis is a high n perhaps subjective entry barrier for many;
with d exception of d ex Accountant General Chua who ran against Ong Teng Cheong in d first PE,
no one else has cleared dis hurdle except for a PAP endorsed candidate.
Left to be seen if TCB turns out to be PAP endorsed, though he resigned from PAP this year.
If not, dis could turn out to be an eventful PE. -

President Nathan is already 87 yo; he has previously indicated dis will be his last term.

There is currently no constitutional limit on d number of terms one can serve as President. -
