I have read somewhere in the forum that MSHS has a student care service (after school) managed by Alumni. Is the service still available now? What is their operation hours and charges like?

      Miracle Child:

      Hi all,

My son will be in P1 next year in MSH.

Orientation is on 7 Nov 2009. Can parents accompany the child for orientation? Thanks.

Parents supposed to accompany the child....bring your cheque book...alot of expenses for the day. For MSHS, P1 - P2 their recess is catered in so you will have to pay for catering (you can opt out but must pack food for the kid everyday). From what is practised for P1s this year, they are not allowed to go to the canteen. They only allowed to play after they finish their food.

They wil send you the soft copy of the booklist, just need to buy the compulsory items. Everything will be packed into a box for you. Even the plastic folders are included ($2). They will give you a list of which book requires wrapping and those that don't.

PE attire can be bought at the school, white uniform at Bras Basah Complex. Name tags will be ordered in the school. (at our cost of cos)

Other additional costs include buying of a lock for their lockers in school. School bus(if required). Reccommended to take school bus cos after dismissal, school bus has priority to leave first. Also, the roads there tend to get really jammed in the morning. You also need to buy a phone card for your boy to bring to school.

They were very organised last year....I think they should be ok this year too...heard that they ballot at 2B...lucky last year I didn't have that stress πŸ™ πŸ˜„

Having read your post, I am feeling even more depressed now. Has been house hunting for almost 2 months - trying to find a place within 1km to MSHS to enroll my son there. But due to the perceived 'up market', almost all the units I have viewed are asking for prices as high as the last property peak in 2007 while banks are conservative in their valuation. Result? I am still unable to get one without paying huge cash over valuation.

To make the matter worse, MSHS seemed more popular than before this year probably due to the opening of circle line. Looks like my son's chances of getting in is getting slimmer... 😒

        Merlion:
        > academic wise, they're quite strong too

MSHS is VERY strong. Just to give you an idea how strong they are. Last year, about 82 students got into GEP Selection Test Round 2, 12 students got selected for GEP. The year before, 15 students got selected for GEP. Too bad that they don't have GEP classes, almost all their top students have no choice but to transfer to GEP schools every year.

Another interesting thing is their test papers are not available in market because students are not allowed to bring home. Parents can only look at the test papers during the Parent-Tecaher meeting. Overall, their test papers' standard is one of the highest in Singapore.

So don't worry. Your son is in good hands. Cheers. :celebrate:

From what I understand, it is still available. One of my son's classmates goes there. His parents pick him up at 7pm. They will supervise his school work so u can probably save on tuition fees. You can log onto their website to check.

If you are unsuccessful in our application at phase 2B/C, put him on waitlist. But you must be prepared to buy new uniforms and books if he gets in after school term has begun.

By the way, MSHS does not "sort" classes till P5. A student will be in the same class for P1 and P2. The school will mix them up randomly in P3. They will remain in the same class for P3 and P4. Also, badminton is the most popular sport in school and they have a very strong badminton school team.

Tried checking both the school's and the alumni's website but no there seems to be no info on it.

Yes, will certainly put my boy in the wait list if unsuccessful in Phase 2C and will be more than happy to buy him new uniform and books if he managed to get a place after term starts.
