P3 Exams

True True, it is probably the expectation set forth since Primary 1 and now that she is in P3, we expects the same. Will have to see the papers to determine why of the score.
-
so 84.5 is consider band 1 or band 2??..
-
Hee… vlim, I think 84.5 should be band 1?
My DS P3 teacher has just sent us an analysis of results based on the PSLE system and divided into high A*, low A*, high A & low A as below:
high A* (95 - 100)
low A* (91 - 94)
high A (83 - 90)
low A (75 - 82)
Dunno breakdown of B & C as all in class obtain A & A*. -
oki thanks…if that is the case then my p3 dd will have 2 band1…heheeeee

Hi
I think 84.5 is Band 2. Band 1 is 85 and above.
The drop for P3 grades is a nation-wide phenomenon affecting all students in the same cohort across all schools. When my DS got his P3 SA1 results last year, I also got a shock - he only managed to score Band 1 for Math; the rest are all Band 2. So, for his P4 SA1 this year, I took a few days’ leave to coach him in his Science and English. Because the revision is very systematic and targeted at his weakest areas, he managed to score Band 1 for both subjects.
Somehow, I feel that it is not that important to engage a tutor that has excellent knowledge of the subject. It’s how the tutor delivers the subject that is the critical factor. I’m fine if the tutor has to rely on the model answers to teach the child, but he should be able to understand the answers and then explanin the rationale to the child. But of course, some model answers are wrong, so the tutor also should not follow the model answers blindly. If he feels that the answer is not quite right, he would need to do some research, or look at other books with similar questions and derive the most reliable answer. This is just my opinion. Of course some parents will not agree with me and think that it is important that tutors have excellent knowledge of the subject area. -

Yes, this is correct; even by 0.50 will make a difference in the banding - as I was told by my P3 DD1's FT tooHi

Yes, I was pre-amp by friends and also parents here in KiasuParents forum to be \"mentally prepared\" that there will be a dip in the grades from P2 to P3. Of course, initially when I got to see my DD1 SA1 result, I was a bitThe drop for P3 grades is a nation-wide phenomenon affecting all students in the same cohort across all schools. and
because she got a low band 2 for English  ....But tell myself cannot show it in front of her so instead of repriminding, i encourage she tries harder for CA1 and SA1
I believe this is the path we P3 parents are going through and we are already half-way thru it! :rahrah: So, Let's 加油 and encourage each other on :grphug: . -

Just want to inform that some (or should it be most) schools start using grades by P5 to be in-line with PSLE gradings. So Achievement Band applies to P1-P4, Grades for P5-P6.I believe P1-P4/P5 follows this banding.
Achievement Bands\tMark Range\tBrief Description\t
Band 1\t85 - 100\tIs very good in the subject\t
Band 2\t70 - 84\tIs good in the subject\t
Band 3\t50 - 69\tHas adequate grasp of the subject\t
Band 4\tBelow 50\tHas not met minimum requirements for the subject
PSLE follows this:
Grade\tMark Range\tBrief Description\t
A*\t>91\tHas very good understanding of the subject\t
A\t75 – 90\tHas good understanding of the subject\t
B\t60 – 74\tHas good understanding of the subject\t
C\t50 – 59\tHas adequate understanding of the subject\t
D\t35 – 49\tHas fair understanding of the subject\t
E\t20 – 34\tHas elementary understanding of the subject\t
U\t<20\tHas not met the requirements for the minimumgrade\t
HMT table:
Grade\tScores\t
Distinction\t80 – 100\t
Merit\t65 – 79\t
Pass\t50 – 64\t
Ungraded\t0 - 49 -
My DS P3 form teacher started using the PSLE grading sys (not sure about other classes) which I think is good as the kids will ultimately take the PSLE. It is also less confusing.

Did the English teacher gave you a breakdown on the score for every section: Compo, Listen Compre, Lang Use, Compre (MCQ, OE)? From there u wld have a better idea on why the drop. Compo and Listen Compre are new to P3.

My DD1 barely pass her Listening Compre by 1 mark :nailbite:
so this area I am still :scratchhead: how to teach?
Compo wise - I have to \"outsource\" to experts to teach :moneyflies: :moneyflies: ....
