        Hi bobsg01,

        Difference between the two shaded parts = difference in area between 1/4 circle of 4cm and semi circle of 3cm.

        cheers.

          HoSayLiao:
          Can someone help with this question?

          Ali has $300. He lost 1/3 of it and ends up with $200. To have the $300 again, he needs to win $100 which is ½ of the $200. 1/3 is known as the Losing Fraction (LF) and ½ is known as the Winning Fraction (WF). ½ times 1/3 = 1/6. 1/6 is the product of the LF and WF, known as the PLW. Find the LF and the WF if the PLW is 81/400.

          Hi HoSayLiao, in my diagram below, the shaded parts represent the amount lost. Hope my solution makes sense.

                Hi

                Could a kind soul explain how to solve this problem:

                Mdm Kavi bought a few kilograms of curry powder. She packed the curry powder into equal packets of 1/4 kg each. If she had packed the curry powder into packets of 1/10 kg each, she would get 18 more packets of curry powder. Find the amount of curry powder that she bought.

                Thanks.

                  In July,
                  No. of tulips sold = 30% x 1350 = 405
                  No. of roses sold = 405
                  No. of carnations sold = 1350-405-405= 540

                  In August,
                  Increase in no. of carnations sold = 45% x 540 = 243
                  No. of carnations sold = 540+243 = 783
                  783 carnations represent 27% of total no. of flowers sold.
                  73% total flowers sold are tulips and roses.
                  No. Of tulips and roses sold = 73/27 x 783= 2117

                  Let F be the % increase in tulips and roses sold from July to August
                  (45% x 540) + 540 = 783
                  (F% x 810) + 810 = 2117

                  F = 161.35%

                    Thanks.

                    Let x kg be the weight of curry powder.

                    If packed in 1/4 kg packet, no. of packets = 4x
                    If packed in 1/10 kg packet, no. of packets = 10x

                    If packed in 1/10 kg packet , no. of packets will be 18 more,

                    so

                    4x + 18 = 10x

                    x = 3kg

                    Weight of curry powder = 3kg
