Desertwind, you are lucky your maid agent is responsible enough to help you. The last time my maid gave me problems, I called my agent and they took so l-o-n-g to respond. By then, my DH and I solved the problem liao! :rant:

I recently allowed my maid to go home to Indonesia afor 2 weeks & she’s due to return today. However she told us that she spend all the $600 we gave her & now she wants another $200 otherwise she can’t come back. Told us she needs to pay for her VISA and renting of a VIP car to send her from her kampong to the Surabaya airport.


I’m not sure what to do now. If she doesnt return, what paperwork must I do & how soon I can get a new maid. I have 2 kids who needs taking care.

Anyone have a similar situation? Pls advise.

I have no practical advice as never experience before. Just to ask - how much do u trust her? How reliable has she been? Has she showed signs that she is not planningto return? Did she bring all her belongings back? Do you wanna take the chance that she will still not return even with that extra $200? Only u can answer all these. Good luck.

Mummygwen, I agree with cwc. It boils down to how much you trust her. If you think it’s worth risking the $200, then go ahead and wire her the money. But not, contact your agent to cancel her work permit and apply for a new maid. New maids will take some time though.

It takes about 2months for new maids to come in now, at least. So better start looking now.

I think you can start looking now. Heard that supply is limited now so you may have to wait longer to get a new maid.

I think she's just taking you hostage to get more money out of you. If you decide not to wire the money, just go ahead and cancel the workpermit online. Call up MOM to explain why you can't return the wp card (I assume it should be with your maid) - and let them know that this maid has decided not to return. Do have the airticket reference for her outward trip.

On the other hand, I suggest you should call up ICA to inform them about this maid. My concern is if she return on the airticket and wp you provide to her, and work illegally. if you lodge a report, at least ICA can't hold it against you. Am wondering if they may put her on blacklist so she can't enter SG with the wp you provide.

And in all, do let her know (if she calls again) that you have contacted the ica (I would just say police) so she cannot come back using the airticket and work permit (scare her a bit); and wish her the best of luck. Sorry, but I hate it when pp dun keep to their promises and try to squeeze more money out...do we look like money plants to them?

FYI, when my ex-maid went on home leave, I gave her zero money (ie she only took back what she earned). Have never heard anything about money for visa.

Not sure about the VISA for her return. Guess, you can check with your maid agency or mom. But for VIP transportation, that’s too much to ask for. Wish your problems would be resolved soon.
