Good luck! I think it's always better to search early so you can find one after your own heart...than to scramble last min and settle for one that you may not really want. -
How do you manage housework and meals for your family when your maids went on home leave?
My maid has just renewed her 3rd contract with me and she will be going for her 2 weeks home leave from end Sept to early Oct.
2 years ago when she went for home leave, I was 4 weeks away from giving birth to my 3rd kid. With 2 young kids then, I hired part time maid to come thrice a week to clean the house as I was too ‘big and tired’ to do that. For meals, I ordered tingkat but cook my own rice and soup. I have to either work from home or take leave on some days to stay home when the part time maid came. I was so worried that my maid plays me out and do not return but luckily she did and luckily I didn’t pop earlier than expected.
For her home leave this year, I dun intend to order tingkat as my family does not like the food. I think some days I will packet dinner and cook on other days. My 3 kids will be at childcare during day time but I am worried that getting them ready for school daily will be a mad rush. DH will be going to work much earlier so I am the one chauffeuring the kids to school.I guess I have to engage part time maid service again as I think I will be too tired looking after 3 preschoolers and being 30 weeks preggy (by then). Thinking of this really stresses me out. Sigh. -

Can you take 2 weeks leave?

Your maid does NOT have to pay for any visa when returning to SG. Your address would have been recorded in her passport when you renewed it. so she doesn’t have to pay any exit tax.
However. sometimes the guys at the airport try to pull a fast one on the maids, and ask for payment. -
Hi everyone, thanks for all yr advise.
We trusted my maid alot since she has already worked with us for 2 yes and she dotes on my children, especially my younger son. We felt very shocked and betrayed as it seems she totally changed when she went home.
My family believe that she has planned this a long time ago. Tried calling her & her family several times but they refused to pick up. I believe she has stolen several items from us and also took some items from my MIL’s maid on the pretext of borrowing.
The only lucky thing is that she did not steal anything of much value. I have cancelled her work permit yesterday, but I’m not sure if I should report to ICA. This is a lesson well learned. I only hope to quickly hire another maid soon. -

Goes to show you can't trust them. Good thing you didn't fall for her scam and send her more money. I think you should report to ICA.Hi everyone, thanks for all yr advise.

I think you should report to ICA becos she still has that workpermit with her that is valid (since she was to return), and probably you would have given her the airticket also. If she come back and show that workpermit, and then overstay, YOU may get into trouble as you are her employer.
I'm not fully sure, but there must be some who try to use such tricks to come back SG to work. As a part time housekeeper (I'm not talking about other professions though that may be worth more), they would be able to earn very much more than being your maid.
Glad you had cut your losses. Good luck on your next maid!
