Preparing kids for P5 in 2011
-
Hi Pen88n,
I’m handling P5 English paper 2, Science and P1 daughter’s school work.
Don’t think P1 need to go for extra lessons…very scary leh. -
Pen88n,
You’re spot on with the "structure and strategy" point.
I succeeded with her creative writing from P2 to 4. But at P5, I give up, especially since I cannot sustain how regular she revises and go nuts everytime I have to start from basics all over again due to lack of practise.
So while I have all the resourse, I did not have the right "structure and strategy". -

At least you managed to coach your daughter creative writing. I just don't know
how to teach my son. I've enrolled him for creative writing class and just had a word with his teacher..will be sending him for trial lesson next week at another centre which includes Eng Paper 2. If I'm satisfied with the trial lesson, I'll register him there and pull out from the other one.

Ya, Peony, I go nuts when I try to understand and establish some structure for DS to do his English compo - just can't / don't know how to. Similarly, try to teach him cloze compre - he just can't find the \"right\" word to fill the blanks. Don't know how to improve that other than make him read and do more, but doesn't seem too right to me.Pen88n,

These are just too different from Maths, whereby I have no issue with imparting him the concepts and application! -
Pen88n:
Give me a FIVE. I am having the same problem with English too.

:snuggles: 'just can't / don't know how to'...really trying my luck which is very scary since it's an important subject. Reading alone doesn't seem to help since compre cloze is a tough area. -

Ok, Here it is :hi5: :rahrah:
Give me a FIVE.janet_lee88:
Can I come here to kapoh and :grphug: ?I am having the same problem with English too.

Also very \"key sim\" over English  also worried & :scared:
Now at this cross junction - shall i continue to self-coach EL paper 2 or shall I \"outsource\"? :moneyflies: :moneyflies: -
Champion:
If your daughter did ok for her SA1, you can still self-coach EL paper 2.janet_lee88:

I self-coach my son until P4 Feb...until I cannot tahan the stress. When I outsource, I can be the backup since one a week is not going to work magic. Being a backup and sitting on frontline is totally diff. -

My DS is P6 this year, and realy
he see \"light at end of tunnel\" soon for his languages!
Sometimes, I think maturity has some effect on grasping of languages too. Some implications in stories / compre are just lost to them as they are not matured enough to understand or comprehand the subtle meaning behind that. -
yes, I'm now the backup for everything! Less stress...
... but less $$$ too!

That's why they said having kid(s) is expensive :moneyflies: :moneyflies: :moneyflies: from milk powder & pampers to childcare and enrichment classes to tuition and more enrichment to.......Long way more to go!yes, I'm now the backup for everything! Less stress...
