Yup, heard from DD too of classmates who have been told to opt for triple science or else.

I have to tell myself it’s her life and ambition (even though she doesn’t have one yet), not mine.

Hmm sounds like my DD's case.
In the end she is giving up Bio and deciding to take double science (pure physics and pure chem) and double humans (lit and history). Her logic is that she can always take bio in year 5 if she wants to - not a prerequisite as compared to physics and chem.

Better check that out with the JC she intends to go to because the JCs I'm familiar with all require you to have taken Biology in upper sec if you want to take it in JC.[/quote]Tks, jtoh. She's in an IP. And I've seen the requirements for years 5 and 6. Both chem and physics have pre-requisites. Not bio. I've also checked with her science teacher, just in case. She even gave me the example of her brother who never took Bio in O and A levels but (don't ask me how) is doing his phd in bio now.

Anyways, she has less interest in bio than in Lit and history. But she likes chem and physics.

Not sure how her teachers will react with her listing of double science and double humans as her first choice and triple science and single humans as her second choice.

Can i ask whether all classrooms in TJC are air-con? i.e. Year 1 to 6 students will study in aircon rooms?

My DD only knows that classrooms are air-conditioned for yrs 1 to 4 but she's not sure for J1 and 2.

Also, the air-cons are turned on from the time the classrooms are unlocked in the morning duringthe hotter months but for cool end of year months, they are turned on later.

    • RE: Hours of sleep for Sec School children

Be it in primary school and now secondary school, my DD gets close to 8 hours of sleep. Even when some parents complain that homework keeps them up till 11pm, it’s not that way for us. My qn is, what time do they start on homework? If they procrastinate till after dinner or have lots of tuition, then is school really to be blamed?

Time management is key. DD uses free time in school to do her homework. She even has time for her favourite TV shows & time for revision before bedtime. Right now she’s only in year two. If she cannot learn to manage her time now, it’s gonna be harder in the years to come. She doesn’t play computer/mobile games nor chat online or via phone with friends. Both are her choice which helps with time management.

Sad and now upset with uncalled for and rather mean remarks found online (thankfully, not in KSP).

We are blessed that we can still hug and comfort our kids.

Really feel for his family and my heart goes out to them.

    • RE: Really impossible to direct hire Indonesian maid?

      Bells:
Peony - Thanks for your reply. When you go through the agency, does the helper still have to take a loan ?

Actually it's up to u and the helper to agree on how to split the cost. Either way, we will be the one who has to pay up front. Decided to let her \"pay\" one month and I bear the rest. She's agreeable.

Hi anggie78 - can u share your agency's contact please? I am also planning to rehire ex-helper. Thanks.

Hi Peony - any luck with self application ? Thanks.

I asked a few agencies & still getting conflicting info. Some say just need to pay agent fees (almost $2k) and maid no need to take loan. Some say need agency fee + maid still have to take loan again.
I went to the Indo embassy but was told direct hire is not allowed. Hence I've decided to not risk it and go thru an agency who quoted me the lowest price.

My ex-helper (not the one I'm re-hiring) told me that some of her friends did come in as tourist and then their employers did the paperwork etc. But I'm resigned to paying at this point.

      Hope u have better luck.
