My dd who just finish sec 4 didn't do all that much CIP (have some but not much), but she still get A1 for CCA, so don't have to worry too much about CIP, right?
thks for sharing....yes, in fact most pupils could obtain a A1/ A2 finallyAugmum:
CIP is a small portion of the total CCA, to achieved A1 or A2 CCA is a must specially if your present the school for any competition
that's right, max only 5 points of the total CCA
but sometimes CIP hours, could still make a difference on the interviewers. -

You need at least 20 CCA points to get your 2 bonus points.
You need at least 8 CCA points to get 1 bonus points.
Bonus points are only applicable to secondary students taking o-levels in SG.
It is difficult to get an A1 of 25 CCA points without leadership position(s) but I managed to do so :imcool:
In any case, I restrained myself for 4 freaking years to get my deal.
It is worth the CCA points but I never liked the place as the ppl suck balls.
This is my last year in this god-forsaken school, I never want to come into such a place again... It was... painful...to say the least.
My advice would be to do the minimum to get your points. If you are sec 3 and you estimate that you cannot hit 20 no matter what you do now till sec 4, then you should not bother trying to up your CCA points.
In October last year, I managed to view my CCA records. Hitherto, I had gotten 13 points. By doing 60+ hours of CIP hours and Silver NYAA, plus enrichment points received by events organized by my school, I managed to hit 25 points in the course of about 7 months. That is a freaking 12 points leap! Go me! :imcool: -

I agree this CIP thing seems quite insincere on the students' part. However, this so called National Education seems to work. I volunteer from time to time for SGcares and I meet a lot of young adults who are doing volunteer work not for CIP. I think they recall the goodness they felt during their CIP days in school after they have helped the community and want to return to contribute more. I think this NE is quite successful. If there are 50000 in each level cohort and you can influence just 5000 to have a charitable heart and want to continue in community work later, that is a lot already. It doesn't matter the other 45000 bochap or chap less.
I feel quite upset that students nowadays are \"driven\"/\"forced\" to do volunteer work just for sick of clocking enough CIP hours just to fulfill the requirement under the education system. It should be make a good learning process and experience in school thru civil education. Sincerity is more important.lizawa:
My son told me that they have to clock 40 hours in 4 years, ie. 10 hours per year. But the school told them that in order to get scholarships, awards etc. you need 100 hours in 4 years. So they plan to do 25 hours this year. -
It is easy to get A1 if you really try. :imcool:

This post has been the de facto reference on converting CIP hours to LEAPS CCA grade points. However, the post was from 2010 and it has been 13 years since. Is it still valid today?
hi koalamummy,
CIP hours are compulsory in sec school.
Max is 5 points (contribute to the CCA grading sytem)
for 5 points , the pupils need to clock in min of 100 hrs
can refer to the following
100 or more hours - 5 points
80-99 hours - 4 points
60-79 hours - 3 points
40-59 hours - 2 points
24-39 hours - 1 point -

It is not valid anymore, since now we are using the newer version called LEAPS 2.0.

CIP is now called VIA. For Level 3 Service, need 36 hours of service (or equivalent; check the table). Essentially my DSβs school arranges sufficient VIA events for them to participate in β as long as attend all and give suitable effort instead of slacking, will get Level 3 after the 4 years in secondary school.
