hi K2 parents,
here is a sample ‘Primary 1 SA1 Paper 2 2011’ Maths question that require ‘Higher Order Thinking Skills’ nowadays.
test objective ?
-\ttest understanding of ‘Number Bonds’ concept,
-\ttest the grasp of English skills (ability to read well), play with words,
-\ttest analytical thinking skills :-
Mother has baked some cream puffs and durian puffs. She wants to put 8 puffs into a box. In how many ways can she put the puffs - in order to have at least one of each kind of puffs inside the box?
how to solve ?

hi K2 parents,
perhaps you can print out the above qn, show it to your child's K2 Newton Maths teacher -ask teacher go thru with entire K2 class this type of 'High level order thinking' question (as an example). Ask all pupils to read out qn in English first, think about how to solve, based on K2 Maths principles taught so far, ie. use which principle to solve ?
like what this K2 parent from another pre-school has done to her K2 son:-

Hi, If my son is born in dec 2010, he can start pre-nursery in 2013 or 2012? I am looking around for good nursery and am considering Newton Kindy.

hi postpet,
N1 or Pre-nursery starts in the year your child turn 3 yrs old.
since yr child born in 2010, means he start N1 in 2013.
you may register your child around July 2012 (if you are from the public), for entry into N1, 2013. -
useful thread:
how to teach 'Less Than' & 'Greater Than' Maths concepts to K1, K2 level:-

hi postpet,
here is the formula:
(the year your child born in + 3) ==> yr of admission into N1 (Pre-nursery), in any kindergarten. Kindergarten are regulated & controlled by MOE.
(the year your child born in + 7) ==> yr of admission, Primary 1.
since yr child born in 2010, he will be admitted for N1 Term 1, January 2013.
he will be admitted into Primary 1, January 2017. -
info for K1 & K2 parents, prepare P1 Maths ...
