My current maid is Burmese, after 2 indo maids. She’s no perfect and doesn’t do things very well, but I consider her a godsend.

      1. she always welcome me home with a smile,
      2. not one to worry about her money (she asked me to keep, each time I asked her to check, she’ll tell me don’t need),
      3. able to accept when she has done something wrong (we don’t scold her, bearing in mind that burmese tend to be prouder),
      4. she loves my kids to bits,
      5. she can eat pork (I’m no longer drinking chicken based soup only)

She came not knowing much language, but happily, she is starting to understand more of what we say (or maybe we got used to communicating with her in a variety of styles). She’s not too clean but at least got no smell (my first indo maid had a smell about her). She’s willing to exert energy in washing/cleaning (unlike my 2nd maid who behaves with a princessy air about her).

Ultimately I think it all depends on luck and what the family situation requires, and also if the maid needs the money or just come with the idea to have fun. Mine is quite light work (clean the house, that’s all). There’ll always be adjustment issues becos she wasn’t brought up the same way as me, but I think we can work it out.

I can’t imagine life without maid. Sometimes you have to close one eye and pretend not to see the mistake.

my maids were employed to do only housework. Don’t have to take of kids or cook (cos I do all that). So it’s considered quite simple work. But I guess it’s luck and you will really need lots of it when it comes to maids…you might have to go through several or even many before you meet a good one. I usually try to close my eyes and play hide and seek at home with the maid. But the 4 Burmese I had…it just was not good. : (

            Just unlucky I guess.

Now I don’t have a maid, I get the kids to help and gadgets like vacuum robots to ease the work. It’s really tough the 1st few weeks cos there is so much re-organizing to do (many things missing or damage) but after that it’s ok. Actually feels really good now without extra worries. : )

I went maidless for a couple of months before the 2nd maid. The feeling of release was so good that I was happy doing the housework. But my mum insisted on having a maid…so I went back to hiring one. 😞

                hi

How do you send money for your maid to Myanmar?
I checked with Western Union but they don’t have service with Myanmar.
                Please advice.

Someone told me to try Peninsula Plaza - there are quite a few remittance agencies there.

Seems like Myan is a controlled economy so there is not very much choice for pp to send money back. And it seems again like pp will actually carry the money back to Myanmar for such remittance. Can’t imagine how much that will cost.

My maid is looking to send money home, in time for their planting season.

The Burmese shops in Peninsula Shopping centre provides remittance services. But you need to go in and ask. Their rates are also different.

For me, I go there only once and got one of the namecards with bank account. Subsequent months , I contact them and TT the money to the bank account.
