[Bukit Merah] Primary Schools

shadowplay:
Excellent review shadowplay! Thanks to you, we finally have some insight into Blangah Rise in this forum. And a great one at that too....Been doing some research and noted:
- Blangah Rise is not a new school, but shifted from Tlk Blangah Rise to existing premise around year 2000. Traditionally not known to have produced good results. thus being less popular. Being less populated, has the better / more facilities in relation to student ratio. Guess that's the reason why it is offering more seats this year while all others have reduced its intake vacancy. Thinking for upper primary and CCA, situated at the far end of TB Heights, transport is rather inconvenient for those not using sch bus, only bus 124 & 273 reaches. But a good 10 mins walk to TB rd where more bus services are available and upcoming MRT line.
- GES Pri was a new school formed in yr 2002, to merge Alexandra Hill, Bukit Ho Swee, Henderson, Keng Seng Pri, and Pearl's Hill. Think its site was where Bukit Merah Sec School used to be, fully refurbished of course. Trasnport is slightly more convenient since it's by Jln BM, but quite far from MRT stn. Being relatively newer, also not know to have produced good results. but they seems to be making improvement recent years.
Hope this give some basic info for those parents looking out for backups in bukit merah area. With zhangde filling up at this rate, think no chance for phase 2C Supp this year... -

I went RM yesterday afternoon and finish my registration there, but I did not image RM is so hot. 146 person did the registration for 113 vacancies. Although I live within 1km of RM, but I'm afraid to have the result of balloting. So I went Kellock after RM's registration. I found the environment of Kellock is so nice, it's appear more quiet compare to RM, and the facility of Kellock is much newer than the RM. Actually, I prefer Kellock more now...
Well said shadowplay! Be grateful that our child still goes to school at the end of the day. It is not like dooms day! I too hope everyone gets into their school of choice. GES is picking up. Like Zhangde, they picked up very quickly and the next thing you know, their population demands gets higher each year.
Good school like Radin Mas is totally out of the picture. Good luck everyone! -
Hi there
I am new here and having been reading some of the forum..found them very informative and interesting.
I actually went to 3 schools, Radin Mas, Zhangde and Gan Eng Seng on the 1st day of 2C registration and eventually registered at RM. Looking at the number, for 1-2km must ballot.
So me too also looking at the next option in case I am unlucky.
I went for the GESPS's open hse and so far found it not too bad. But also looking at Blangah Rise. In fact, I spoken with a friend, also in the same boat as me said that she heard that BR maybe a better option than GESPS cos of the environment and student ratio. She also mentioned that the principal for BR has juz changed to a new principal.so anybody have any idea?
cheers -
hi there, i hv also registered my son at RM yesterday.. but looking at the number, likely need to ballot
so here I am, looking at next option, if its GESPS or Blangah Rise. Have spoken with another parent in the same boat, she heard that BR has a better environment and student ration then GESPS, plus they just have a new principal..anybody hv any idea or more info abt this school?

Hi Everyone
Newbie question…If I register my child for River Valley under Phase 2B and accepted by the school and at the same time CHIJ (KellocK) is under Phase 2C and >2km for me. Can I make a change to CHIJ(Kellock) thereafter? I’m assuming that CHIJ has more enough vancancies for Phase 2C without balloting.
Read in this forum that there are pple doing that in the popular schools (ie. register earlier phases for the 2nd choice school and thereafter switch to 1st choice school if there are vancancy for the 1st choice school in later phases)
Many thanks -
I think that is possible provided you withdraw from River Valley Primary & register in CHIJ Kellock. CHIJ Kellock also seem to have high chance of balloting.

Hi Sniper Angel
Appreciate your prompt response. I called CHIJ (Kellock) today and from the MOE website, I have to agree with you that the school have a high chance of balloting under Phase 2C.
Can you help to confirm my understanding on Phase 2C that is allocation of vancancies will be based on distance (ie. those <1km will be allocated a place followed by those within 1-2km and so on). Eg. if the school has 50 vacancies at Phase 2C :
1) 25 students within 1km (all in, no balloting)
2) 13 students within 1-2km (all in, no balloting)
3)30 students outside 2km ( these 30 students will ballot for 12 vacancies)
I read from this thread that CHIJ (Kellock) do not accept PV work and they only take in PV after your child is in their school. So can I assume that Phase 2B2 under PV is out. If so, why PV when a child is already in the school

Halo Raynrng,
In summary, you would have better chance if stay within 1Km. Now Radin Mas, Zhang De, CHIJ (Kellock) most likely would be ballot for those 1Km-2Km. More than maybe 2Km can forget about it.
Yes, your illustration by the example is correct. Oh not very sure why CHIJ (Kellock) starts taking PV once the child in school. You may wish to check with the school for more details.
Have you secured a place in Phase 2B with River Valley? -
Hi Sniper Angel
As per this forum, I’m kiasu also. Had volunteer for PV work with River Valley this year hoping to secure my child under Phase 2B in next year’s registration. At the same time, I’m keeping track of this year’s primary school registration exercise to have a feel of the beat during this period.
Have you registered your child in any particular school around Bukit Merah area. -
From what i know, Zhangde & Radin Mas - balloting for 1-2km, CHIJ balloting for >2km
Was at Radin Mas yesterday 4.30pm, the \"unofficial\" numbers are:
seats available for 1-2km 23, registered appliacants 64... (Ratio is almost 1:3)
Good luck to all during the balloting exercise!
