Young Scientist Magazine
Hi parents,
My girl is in P2 and i'm looking around for materials to get her interested in science. Came across this magazine at the book fair recently.
Would this mag serves as a good intro to Science? First impression is that the lay out is like comic books and quite attractive, but contents were kind of short of my expectation... am i asking too much? Too KS???
Read another post on the Nat Geo Kids (or was it Nat Geo Explorer?)... is that a better or worse alternative? Another other suggestions?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi QMS,
Info from one of my freind's freind said that CHIJ (Kellock) on oridentation day were being bring to the classroom. All were being ask to sit for English & Chinese test. :!:
Those who performed badly have to come back in Nov or dec maybe 2 weeks for extra remedical lessons. Not free of charge have to pay,
So when P1 school reopen, all would more or less the same standard.
Guess we need to be prepare as RMPS would be also a siong siong school for us. :?:
Hi all,
Just like to share a little about Kellock, as my kid is in P1 this year... We had initially wanted to enroll in RMPS, but being in the 1-2km last year put us up for balloting, and with 60+ eligible applicants for 20+ vacancies was not very attractive thus we enrolled in Kellock.
On orientation date, the kids were given some tasks and word games to play (according to my girl), while the parents met the principal and watched some performances. I guess they were assessing the apptitute of their language and math skills...
According to the principal, Kellock is not keen on having a few brilliant individuals to bring glory to the sch. That's probably why there's hardly any top student making the headlines in the past... Their approach are more of a \"nobody left behind\" policy.
On day one of sch, they were assigned to their respective classes. They adopt names of stones like diamond, ruby, jade etc for their classes, so we can't guess which class is for the better or weaker students... and most of the students will remain in the same class throughout the 6 years. In the first 2 or 3 months, once awhile my girl told us they had this new girl in class, or one of her classmates went to another class... guess they do categorise in one way of another. Even in this 3rd semester, her class will split up and join different classes for chinese lessons. Weaker students were also given remedial classes after school.
Another neighbour shared that her boy in RMPS has quite a lot of homework. When he missed school recently for 1 day MC, he was asked to go for remedial classes. Guess the principal was right in saying that kids going to RMPS must be prepared to take the pressure. -

RE: My son sweats in air-con room
chuanchuan:
no sweat... both my girls does that too. And it got worst when they are under medication. My son is 3. Everynight after he has fallen asleep for half hour, he will start to sweat a lot, especially the head. We turn our air-con to 20 Deg and he will still sweat. I have to use a cloth to dry him before I can go to bed.
Any one with similar problem ? -
RE: [Central] Preschools
ayh... Jan - Mar 2009, that's 3 months only, just go for the nearest...
But then what... return to States? Why subject your child to local primary education system if she's here only for 3 months? I would have thought that registering her in an International School running syllabus in line with her long term education plan would probably do her more good. -
RE: All About Tennis

Hi,
Just wondering if there are any tennis school in Singapore that we can send the kid to for training?
My 6 yr old has been asking me to send him to a tennis school though my bil is currently \"coaching\" him by playing tennis with them every sunday.
I feel that it's better to learn the proper strokes,etc...
Also, with so many condos having tennis courts nowadays and the elimination of tennis centre (eg. the one at east coast), is this sport less popular? I also also looking in terms of school DSA?
There's some programs for kids by the S'pore Tennis Association, which hold lessons at various tennis centres. See http://www.singtennis.org.sg/
