Now that my children are off to the park to take that very important eye-relaxing walk, I can write more.

Fur-ma, if your child is only 5.5yo, her face is going to out-grow the frame, so looks like u have to have an annual specs budget.

Personally, I have tried the atropine eyedrop on one eye to experience what my children were going through. One word - TERRIBLE. It dilates the pupil and everything seems so glaring. Sorry to scare you but I just want to share. Even with the specs, make sure she wears a cap. Get an excuse letter from the doctor which will state reasons for wearing these specs and cap during outdoor activity. Also tell her if her classmates or nosey parents laugh at her, know how to respond. We have parents walking to us, telling us it's wrong to wear such tinted glasses, thinking that we r doing it out of vanity!

As for the question on how many pairs of specs in these 4 years of undergoing atropine treatment - older child - currently wearing 2nd pair. Younger child - 4th or 5th.

Are both of you and your hb short-sighted?

wormy, sound scary. now i hesitating to put her on atropine treatment. wat a big headache

my boy just started, i tried the eye drop on my eye also, can said it's terrible. but when come to our kids(those young age) with high myopia with got no choice to let him have it, otherwise the mypoia will be as high as stock market, with the thick glasses, it will causes inconviences for them in reading and playing, when come to primary school, their have more school work and reading, that time the myopia will be even shoot up, it's good to be pro-active, and take a step to help them. Personally i dont take it, but no choice.

According to DR in SNEC, the kids can only put in this atropoine for max 2years only, there do not want to take risks, cant forseen what it is the long term side effect.
How often does your boy use the drops? How often does he go back for check-up? When on atropine, the kids shouldn't be changing their specs so regularly. The drops should be able to control the myopia.

Bad genes are definately the cause of my dd’s poor eye sight.

My dd has been on the eye drops for a week now and so far no complaints. I am trying to be low key about it. If I say how terrible it is, my scaredy-cat girl will refuse the drops then I will have a big problem.

My optician has quoted me $450 for the lens based on 1.6 for the right eye and 1.5 for the left eye which has a lower degree than the right. It is a "no brand" brand. This is much lower than the $600 I was quoted by another shop so I will go with this. The cheapest branded one is Hoya which costs about $550

            Hi Fur-ma

Sounds like a good find. The optician is kind enough to suggest 1.5 for the lower power side. Though i complained about the glare from the eye drops, my kids seemed fine with the glare. Hopefully some day a magic potion b invented to cure myopia.

Oh how I wish that day will come soon.

In the meantime, it's great to find support amongst mothers with similar situation. Thanks for sharing tips.

                hi happyavon,

did ur child put atropine eyedrop after her visit with dr yvonne ling? effectiveness?
Hi Barney8, the doctor did not prescribe any eyedrop for her yet during our last visit in January this year. Reason: Not a huge increase and administration of eyedrop can still be delayed. However, since my girl is sensitive to sunlight, Dr has given greenlight to give her transition lens. So we headed straight to our regular optician and got her a new pair of spectacle...She is so much comfortable with the transition lens especially under the glaring sun...Im not trying to exaggerate here but she is really so sensitive to sunlight that she is not able to open her eyes at all...

Our next visit will be in September and will see how it goes. If the degree has increased substantially, then I guess will be time for the eyedrop....

Just back from kkh review. Her degree has gone down slightly w the atropine drops and is back to her specs degree that was prescribed 5 months ago. Very happy.

As her specs is already the progressive type and the degree is correct, Dr says can use sunglasses clip on. Cips ons for kids are really hard to find. Anyone know where to get? I don’t mind adult types cut to size so long as they do the job. If really cannot find, Dr says need to spend on transition

How long your kid use the eye-drop? My kid just started 1 week, he looked like can cope with the glaring with his progressive plus transittions lens. Do you adjust the lighting to dimmer at home? or just leave it as usual?

My girl also started a week ago. Her current specs is progressive but not transitions. She doesn't complain about any glare. We make her wear a cap when she is outdoors and if it's really sunny, I shade her with an umbrella like a princess 😄

The lights at home are yellow. We did not adjust.

How old is your kid? Is his degree as bad as my dd? Hers is R 575, astig 300 and she is a 2005 child
