      haiz:
i have a question - if supposedly under phase 2C - school balloting for 1-2km, and I am out of 2km - so they asked me to withdraw my application - is it compulsory that I must withdraw ? I am just thinking of appealing to the school to be on waiting list - so if I withdraw - what's my chance of being on waiting list ? Anyone has that kind of experience ? Thanks !

I dun think they can 'force' you to withdraw but you will have to come back in 2C supplement to secure your child in another school. Even if you are on the waiting list, there is no guarantee that you will get a place. You dun want to be caught after 2C supplement without a school and start joining queue in phase 3. I would rather secure a place in another school while placed in the school's waiting list. Then transfer my child there if a place is offered to me subsequently.

Just sharing my approach as I anticipate that I may be caught in a similar situation.

but how to be placed on waiting list ? I was under the impression (from my friend) if you don’t apply to the school, the chance of appealing may be low. So if I withdraw, is it not the same as never apply before, thus, lower my chance of appeal ?

First, assess whether you have any alternative schools which you can register your child and have 100% chance of getting in without balloting?

Second, ask yourself whether you are prepared to take the risk that in case in balloting you didn't get it and you end up in Phase 2C Supplementary where you have no more choice as only the lousy schools are left and you may still need to ballot for some of the schools (most likely the better lousy schools among them)?
Situation look bad for SCGS as by end of today, P1 applicants for within 1km = 59 and fighting for 55 vacancies (Likely tomorrow will have some more applicants).

Since you are within 1km of SCGS, are you also within 1-2km of Raffles Girls Primary (RGPS) or St Margaret (SMPS)? If yes, then you may want to try RGPS or SMPS as historically and even until end of today, it seems that if you are within 1-2km, you have 100% chance of getting in without balloting.

If you intend to change school for P1 registration, you can do the following:
          (1) Station your spouse at SCGS to get ready to withdraw.
          (2) Station yourself at the school you intend to register.
          (3) By 3.00pm if the chance is still good for the school you intend to register, call your spouse via mobile to withdraw from SCGS.
          (4) Simultaneously, you can fill in the registration form at your other intended school and submit.
          (5) Done and let your mind rest as no more worry about balloting (have nice sleep that night!) :celebrate:

SCGS has 55 vacancies for Phase 2C and today already 61 applications but 54 within 1 km! Looks like this year even within 1 km also need to ballot! Going to break the P1 Registration record for SCGS where historically within 1 km is always 100% safe.

I am registered for phase 2C within 1 km. Not sure if should withdraw and go for other schools?? any opinion? Help!!

I agree with Teddy. If you need to ballot SCGS, you may want to consider a school with higher chance like RGPS or St Margarets. If you live below 2km within RGPS and St Margarets will definitely get in. After phase 2c the schools left will not be the good schools. Guess you have to weigh the risks of balloting or a 100% chance of getting into another good school. Wish you best of Luck. Let us know the results.

Have you got a primary caregiver that lives 1km from a good school? Cos if your mom helps you with your child and mom lives 1km away from a good school, you can get a statutory declaration from MOE and apply under that category. Hope that helps.

I’m monitoring RGPS and SMPS now…

Looks like >2km, still stand quite a good chance…
Going by the rate now, I may have better chance to get in either RGPS or SMPS than SCGPS…

Does anyone know why St Gabriel's is so unpopular?

I want to know too. I noticed that they had received the least applications among the 5 schools in Serangoon yesterday. Surely, there must be some reason(s) why parents are giving it a miss.

I enrolled my son in St Gabriel's after being told Rosyth that I did not even have to try since we live between 1-2km away. I found it strange about the low interest even though the facilities of the school seem good. We like that it is single session and has interesting CCAs.

Yangzheng seems popular too but I am just wondering about the school hours; pri 1 & 2 are afternoon session but starts at 11:50am and ends at 6pm, wednesday morning session. I am quite confused about it. Any schools having similar school hours?

Just a word of caution. Some schools may not have a withdrawal form and require at least one parent to be there with NRIC to do withdrawal in person. For submission of application, original NRIC of both parents are required too. Dun wait till too late to simultaneously withdraw and apply at two schools. Better to give yourselves some allowance in case something go wrong...

Thank you for the great info. At least I hear from someone whose child is in the school.
