[Yishun] Primary Schools
-
Today went to 4 pri sch with my girl, just to let her see the different environment and observe her preference. The following is the personal observation by myself and my girl:
1st school visited: Jie Min Primary School - Was not impressed by the rowdy boys playing around the entrance(side), felt that the premises are not well maintained and the building layout not very welcoming. Importantly, the lengthy walk from my house to the school is not well sheltered and need to go thru many HDB blks.
2nd school visited: Pei Xin Primary School - I know that the registration is at Yishun Primary but understand that the premises to hold the 2 merged school (i.e. Pei Xin and Yishun) will be at Pei Xin School, which is currently under construction. Had got in the school at the un-manned side gate, the garden looks dull and the construction in progress make the area untidy. Overall, can’t see any signage and was finding my way to go the hall. Have a glimpse of the girls toilet, looks bright and cheerful. Suddenly disturbed by the noise of the passing mrt, where the track is pretty close to the school. Was finally chased out by the security guard after I entered the canteen area, asked her questions but her reply was rather rude and turn off. Coincidently, when I was reading a banner on " bully in school", some boys who just look like the subject titled walked past me. I looked at my small framed girl and decided that this school is not for me lah…
3rd school visited: Ahmad Ibrahim Pri Sch - My girl could hardly pronouce the English name of the school properly, didn’t attempt to let her read it in Mandarin. Actually not in my plan of visit, but since it is next to Pei Xin, might as well go in and have a look. And to my surprise, the place is very pleasant, there are even 3 designated bus lanes specially designed for student to safely get down from the school bus. The premises is well maintain, simple but functional. The overall design of the school is good welcoming and naturally well lit. Met some of the teachers there, all seemed approachable and ready to answer to our query. My girl likes the place and had finally managed to pronouce the name by the time she reached home.
4th school visited: Chong Fu Pri Sch - A grand facade and entrance to the school, overall the school is big and spacious for many activities to be carried. Met with 2 friendly school volunteers, after walking a big round to find the seminar room for pri 1 reg. They told me that there are already 100+ applicants stay<1km>1km. Though disappointed, was glad that I have a chance to view the school as I usually can only stared from afar outside the sch. One of the volunteer is kind enough to suggest to me to enrol my girl in AIP since it is near my house and also, she had a friend whose son is happily studying there as the teachers there are good.
Conclusion: Ahmad Ibrahim Pri Sch, sorry for not even considering you previously. Tomorrow I will come and register with you. -

What an excursion you had today! Great review!
Just a side note: Nearly all schools have rowdy and big fat boys who look like bullies. The only exceptions are the all-girls schools.
But I think you statements about the facades and the state of maintenance of the schools are good and fair.
Thanks! -
Thanks! Just sharing my views in term of the school facilities, in this line lah...very particular. -
Me also went to AIPS today after registering at Chong Fu. I also share the same views with jaseric....Hee Hee....I also told my hubby few weeks ago that I will not consider AIPS. But after visiting today, the feeling is pretty good.
If cannot get into CF, then I will bring my boy to see if he likes AIPS.

I don't understand. If you stay <2km> 1km from chong fu. That means you have no chance to ballot at all. Because if not <1km, the teachers in CF will ask u not to register leh...Hi,
I've registered my girl for Chongfu yesterday and gotten to know that require balloting today. I already expected it. Now I depend on my luck to gain a seat. If cannot get a place in Chongfu, my headache will come....
My 2nd preference is Anderson but seat almost taken up...furthermore, <2Km from my place.
If there's no other good choice, perhaps will consider Ahmad Ibrahim. The winning point from this school is > it's single session and have Character Development award.
Any other good school to recommend? -
i mean that it seems impossible to be <2km from anderson and yet <1km from CF leh…

BTW... if school buildings look old, they could be in line for upgrading works which means the school may have to move to another temporary location in the future. This may cause inconvenience subsequently. Better check with the school if they have such plans on their charts.
As for other schools... seems like other parents are now zeroing in on Ahmad Ibrahim. -
Hua Min might be another possible choice? I’ve been there 2 times and I really like the peaceful and quietness at that estate. It is pretty airy there and less traffic so it is pretty safe for our kids.
They are also single session so that will be a plus point also… -
Hi Snggy,
so for chongfu u are waiting to ballot for those less than 1km?
any other schools except Ahmad Ibrahim and Huamin are single session?
i went to all the schools website to see but really duno what to look for IF balloting in Jiemin fail.
