      Happy Mama:

In my opinion, it's ok to sign credit card since we may not carry so much cash for big ticket items... but DO pay the bill in FULL at the end of the month. No point paying late charges and interest. 😉
I always go for interest free installment and pay slowly whenever possible.

If no interest free installment, then pay in full for the bill. 😉

At least that girl save up to buy bag.
The thing is, did she revert to \"normal spending\" after buying the bag? or is it her lifestyle?

If it is her lifestyle, then there is nothing wrong with it.

Rich pple may feel that bring own water and squeezing MRT or buses is very unglam or un-class. But peasants do it all the time, so it is nothing \"un-natural\".

So, if she is the type who don't excessively spend on transport or food, but spends on things that she likes, then it is just different person's lifestyle..

my take is that whether to scrimp and save juz to save up for a designer's handbag or

          to spend on credit
          are both unwise doings.......
one shd live within one's means......regardless of buying a house, a car or stuff like a designer's handbag.

Oh….maybe i shd elaborate more on what i meant by “spend on credit”
yes…..nowadays shoppers do not carry so much cash ard.
So it’s a norm to use credit cards……
i meant Overdraft Spending…….spending on future money not current
i know there are some pple who are spendaholic,
charge to ALL cards available and incurred debts, not juz late charges.

I am thinking of getting a branded bag.

I have been working all these years diligently and realized that I really did not pamper myself much. As such, i decided that from this year onwards, I will start to spend more and be more relax about savings.

My budget is $1000, what do you think I should get? I know of many brands that easily exceed that sum, but this is the maximum I would pay for a bag…

You can get nice 2nd hand luxury bags if you dun mind. Gucci or LV are commonplace. Tods and Bottega are more upmarket.

Yup, $1000 is not a huge sum really. If you had been driving a car, that would cost you $1000 per month. If you take the MRT, it's actually ok to indulge in a luxury bag every few months. My friend made this analogy and it sounds logical.

Personally, I would prefer spending on my car than a bag. 😄
