Preparing kids for P5 in 2011

Agree on above. We try our best and accept that there are many factors beyond our control. It is not easy to maintain sanity in this rat race.


Recently reports about teenage suicides and all the buzz about our education system really made me think hard.

Term 3 will be upon us in 2 days. We had a really good break, mostly just chilling out. I think the intense pace of terms 1&2 made us appreciate and enjoy this term break more.

I think they will have more muture thinking when they reach P6 as they are aware that they have to choose the Secondary School very soon.

Next 3 months should be all on revision and drilling since all topics like Science and Maths already completed before the holiday. Think the supplementary class should be at least 3 times a week.

Certainly hope so...sometimes he seems mature in terms of getting work done BUT with no quality :mad: Just last night, I was marking the Science topic on Water & Changes of State. Almost made me kill him :spank:

Happened to meet mum's neighbour last night...his son is in P6. Told me P6 syllabus mostly taught at P5 (except may 1-2 chapters like Speed and Algebra). Just surviving first 6 months of this year is tough enough.

Yes, the new topcis are circle, speed and Algebra. The rest are more or less from the P5 topcis.

In fact during the holiday dd have chance to revise again most of the topics like ratio, percentage and fraction etc on method like branch and units transfer etc during the additonal workshop organised by the school.

Son was lucky he didn't have to go back for extra classes in June. He had a good break...CL tuition resumed only yesterday as tutor went for holiday. As for Math, tutor has been coaching him in Term 1-2 work. As for CL, I got him to revise the 'A' textbook. Just revised topics on 'cycles' this morn.

Term 3 starts 2moro...a fresh new start. :celebrate:

Yes, this noon can see quite a lot of people are buying stationaries and assessment books from the popular before the next term start since popular have given 20% discount until today.

Better to revise topics from term 1-2 than continue. Besides, I've never taught my kids new topics b4 their school teacher does. Since my son started with math tutor, I am confident he will do better :xedfingers: ESP now that hubby goes office everyday.
Have to reschedule time table and weekends to revise more on Science.
Tempted to go IMM later to enjoy dessert.

I'm sure your ds can catch up very soon after this holiday.

As for science, I think the school will start the revision until the prelim.

However, I also bought a 'Structured Revision Practice' for Science and started fill in the answer (copy from the answer key) and get dd to act as a teacher to go through the question and mark the answer. Hopefully this way can help her to recap all key concepts that learnt during P3 to now.

Just curious...what is the 'structured revision practice' for Science ? Who's the author/publisher pls ? I was going through the Science PSLE guide this morning and highlighting the impt keywords. That guide is a good recommendation. After your daughter's PSLE, I would definitely be keen when you 'lelong'

Hi Janet

This book is written by Rajeswari.K and published by FBP.

It combines the practice of Lower Block and Upper Block and is more suitable for preparing the Section B.

Cannot lelong this book as we had filed in the answer and dd has used the red pen to mark and circle out the mistake that I had made during the copy process lah.
