I saw one yesterday. Just came in on Friday but it was sold within a day.

I remembered during those NS days, once I returned home starving badly, opened the fridge and devoured whatever that's left in a metal bowl. Later mum said that was for the dog.

Yummy, dog food never tasted so good when you're a starving NS man. So I guess that night the dog didn't poo so much, hahaha.

I love big dogs. If ever we get a dog again, I think it will be a Lab cos they are easy to train and really wonderful with kids.


One of my ex-bf had 2 rottweilers. I was totally intimidated by them but they were so well trained. The first time I went to his house, one of them quietly plodded over and just laid it’s huge paw on my lap, I froze and my ex told me that was it’s way of greeting. So I patted its head and next thing I know, it flopped at my feet and rolled over waiting to be given a belly scratch with a silly grin and its tongue hanging out of its mouth. Told my ex that totally spoiled the image of rotties.

DH and I made a mistake in getting our golden last time. We were working long hours and at one point moved into a HDB where he was cooped up the entire day from 7am till late at night. He developed a host of problems. His hips were not well developed due to lack of exercise, he had eczema and was not putting on weight. His coat was dull even though we send him to the groomers every month. And in the end, out of boredom, he gnawed on the walls of my kitchen and yard and started plucking out his own fur. In the end, we made the painful decision to give him away as we were also travelling a fair bit due to our work. We scouted around and even interviewed a few families, finally settling on a family living on a landed property with a SAHM and 2 kids in their tweens. It was the best decision we made for him. He ran after out car when we brought him to his new family. We left a couple of our old t-shirts with them to comfort him for the transition period but the initial weeks were difficult for him. He pined for us and refused to eat. But with their tender loving care, he thrived. We visited him a couple of months later and he remembered us and was ecstatic to see us. And again when it came time for us to leave, he wanted to follow us. It was heart wrenching when he started howling but we know he was in good hands. We are still in touch with that family, though they are no longer in Singapore, and we get updates and photos of him. He flourished under their care and is now in my opinion, the handsomest retriever I have seen. Haha. A bit fat though.

We may have ideals of what kind of dog we would like. When we were young, Lassie was our dream dog. But in choosing a dog, we need to understand their characteristics, then we need to look at our environment and a hard look at the commitment level we can give. It is more then providing it a roof and meals. Dogs are social animals that need interaction and stimulation. Some breeds more then others.

Sorry about getting preachy, just don’t want someone to make the same mistakes we made and in the end, it’s the animal that suffers.
