today's Straits Times has an article on the KTKLN card. Apparently it has been in place for a while but not adhered to. But the Indonesian side has suddenly tighten and seems like even overseas maids are affected ie. must apply even for renew maids. Do read the article for more info. -
ST reporters probably got the idea for the story from reading this forum in ksp.

you can go to pearl centre u know the place that sell cheap toiletries. I saw one big bottle (maybe 1 or 2 litre) selling for less than 10 bucks. I think can last for a few months. -
Wa! What is this KTKLN card? How much do we need to pay?
-

I finally have time to login on. So sianz with the media favoring the stand on having maids to go off once a week. I think the media should do more to reflect the reasons why most employers prefer no off-days. The part on maids using off-days to earn extra is also not mentioned.Just curious, so far my maids were more focused on earning money than taking rest days. So with new ruling (whatever it is), I'll have to force her to take her rest day? How? Shoo her out of the door even if she dunwan? No way am I going to pay her $50 for ONE day, I rather she take her rest day.
And, for those new maids, they are not likely to have much money with them. So on their rest day, who's going to pay for their transport, meals and spending outside? Collect from MOM?
Hquek, I am with you here. Or MOM expects us to pay additional $$$ on top of current pay (negotiated with no off day)? i think employers stand to lose if the new rule kicks start. Not everyone has the luxury to allow maids to go off. If given a choice, I prefer to go maidless as having maids come with its own set of issues. :stupid:
Does SAHMs get a day off ? Sometimes I think maids have a better life than SAHMs. If i read correctly, i think the survey results on Saturday papers include people who do not have maids. If so, I think it is a biased report. When I don't have a maid and young infants to manage, I think like them too - that maids earn the right to off days once a week. Now, i change my views. It is easy for folks without such constraints to proclaim the need for maids a day off weekly when they personally do not have constraints like taking care of elderly, sickly or young infants. -

That's why MOM shld be made aware of such common practices by maids who used their off days NOT to rest, but to work sidelines or part time for another households. Sometimes these govt officials work in ivory tower may not be aware of what's going on in the grounds.
MOM could be aware but chose to ignore these GREY areas. It maybe better to give up our full time maids who are more costly and hire those maids who are working part-time on their off-days. Less management issues as well. -

Hehehe... hquek... we are in almost similar predicament... plus, the maid eats her food comfortably... while we jaga my boy... and feeding him (after he started on solids)... sometimes, its hubs eat first while i carry him, and then when he finishes then i'll eat my food...

Same here and my maid even has a valid excuse as my dentist said she got alot of tooth decay and cannot even blow food for my boy. She gets to eat like a queen and enjoy her food slowly while I would eat cold food after settling my boys. :stupid:
